Nathan noticed this and furrowed his brow, not even reaching for the fish on the table.
Even the cutleries used by Emma were communal.
“No need to trouble Ms. Patel,” he said in an icy and distant manner.

Nathan said, “Haven’t I always addressed her like this before?”
He had never called Emma by her name.
Lily was speechless.
Emma and Roland were also displeased.

“Mom, Dad, please eat,” Emma said as she served her parents, signaling with her eyes for them to remain calm.
Roland and Lily understood her message and swallowed their dissatisfaction.
“Nate, have some more,” Lily said, smiling at Nathan.
Nathan was less impatient with the elders, so he nodded.
But he remained silent.
