Chapter 43: No Compromise
Nathan watched the entire incident unfold without intervening. He sensed Olivia’s surging anger and her deep concern for Liam.
The principal’s countenance grew grave. The situation had escalated significantly, posing a threat to the kindergarten’s reputation. If word spread, it would substantially impact future enrollment rates. However, it was not to be trifled with, especially considering Sean’s subservient demeanor, which only fueled his ire. He resented the vice principal for the trouble she caused him.
Frustrated, he could only lower his voice and extend an apology to Nathan and Olivia. “As representatives of the kindergarten, I apologize to you and your child for today’s incident! Our oversight in management allowed a teacher to behave in such a disgraceful manner. I sincerely apologize!”
Olivia’s expression finally softened when she heard the principal’s apology. She maintained a clear distinction between addressing the issue and condemning the individual.
Still, the vice principal was someone who took advantage of others. She would not let her off the hook.
While Olivia would not hold the principal accountable, matters still needed to be addressed. “The appearance of such behavior from a staff member indeed points to a lapse in management! There needs to be accountability for today’s incident! While I can accept your apology and refrain from implicating the kindergarten further, I will not allow certain individuals to evade responsibility!”
The principal breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this. “I understand your position, and the kindergarten will not tolerate such behavior. You have my word! I will report the situation truthfully, and there will be no leniency regarding criticism or dismissal.”
The vice principal, realizing the severity of her predicament, instinctively attempted to plead, “Please…”
The principal promptly cut her off, saying, “Enough! At this juncture, what else do you have to say? As an esteemed educator, you dare to engage in actions that bring shame to the teaching profession and tarnish the school’s reputation. Your audacity is truly astounding!”
The vice principal’s face paled. “I was confused at the time! I failed to conduct a thorough investigation and acted hastily. I acknowledge my mistake; please reconsider my dismissal…”
Olivia observed this exchange with a mocking smile. Even now, the vice principal refused to admit her fault and apologize to Liam.
Nathan’s gaze turned cold.
“What makes you think you can gloss over this matter by claiming confusion? Save your words for when the police arrive!” His tone was devoid of warmth, and he promptly delivered the vice principal’s metaphorical death sentence.
Ten minutes later, two police officers arrived on the scene.
Olivia provided a brief account of the incident and then pointed towards the vice principal and Sean. “Officers, this Mr. Stone is suspected of instigating a physical altercation and restraining my son, resulting in his assault. This vice principal condoned and encouraged such behavior, bringing shame to the teaching profession! She shows no remorse! I witnessed the incident firsthand, and Ms. Hayes was also present and can testify as a witness!”
The police officers frowned when they heard this and turned to Ms. Hayes. “Is what she said true?”
Ms. Hayes responded truthfully, “She’s telling the truth! I tried to intervene, but the vice principal stopped me!”
The police officers nodded. “Understood. In that case, both of you must come with us. Suspected child abuse must be handled following the law.”
With those words, the police officers arrested Sean and the vice principal.
Sean was overcome with fear. As a man of a particular social standing, how could he face the public if he were to be arrested?
He explained hastily, “Officer, I was also deceived and acted foolishly on impulse! It’s not entirely my fault. The vice principal orchestrated everything. If you must arrest someone, it should be her…”
Then, he turned to Nathan, pleading, “Mr. Carter, this situation is not my fault! I acted foolishly… I apologize to you and am willing to compensate you appropriately. Please don’t press charges!”
Nathan’s expression turned stern. He stared at Sean in disgust. “Who do you think you are to beg for my forgiveness?”
