Chapter 36: Unable to Steel His Heart Against Her
Olivia stood momentarily stunned. She never expected Nathan to follow her.
She furrowed her brow and asked calmly, “Mr. Carter, is something the matter?”
Nathan did not answer her question but reiterated, “I said, get in the car!”
His words held an authoritative undertone.
“Mr. Carter, it’s unnecessary if you intend to offer me a ride. I’ll take a cab later,” Olivia refused indifferently, turning to leave.
In a low, steady voice, Nathan said, “If you don’t mind me meeting Liam alone, you don’t have to get in the car.”
Olivia couldn’t help but stop in her tracks.
She gazed at Nathan in the car with a hint of annoyance. “Mr. Carter, I thought I made myself clear! Liam is my son, and you have nothing to do with him!”
“He carries my blood. Can you honestly say there’s no connection between us?” Nathan looked at her calmly. “Olivia, this is merely your perspective. Have you ever asked Liam? Did he come here just to hear from you that he mistook the wrong person for his father?”
Olivia’s breath caught, momentarily at a loss for words. But Nathan did not allow her time to reflect. He started the car, ready to depart immediately.
In urgency, Olivia swiftly approached the car, pulled open the door, and sat beside him.
Nathan turned to her. A hint of sarcasm flickered in his eyes. “What? Finally willing to get in?”
Olivia gritted her teeth, glaring at him. “I don’t want you to get close to Liam without my permission!”
Nathan chuckled, leaning in suddenly. “If that’s the case, you better watch out. Otherwise, I might just snatch away his custody from you at any moment.”
As he spoke, he moved remarkably close to her. Olivia was startled and pressed against the back of her chair, almost wanting to flee. His breath, warm and enveloping, carried his distinctive scent.
Before Olivia could react, Nathan reached over, pulled the safety belt for her, and fastened it. Then, he returned to his seat, started the car, and drove to the kindergarten.
Olivia remained tense for a moment before calming down. She clenched the safety belt and replied coldly, “You can try if you dare!”
Nathan remained silent, but the chill in his eyes melted a little.
At this moment, Emma stood under a tree near the car, gritting her teeth in hatred.
Moments ago, she had grown impatient waiting for Nathan to come down and planned to find a way to go upstairs. But then, she caught a glimpse of Nathan’s car passing by the Martinez Group entrance and hurriedly chased after it. She did not expect to witness such a scene.
Her jealousy burned so intensely that her eyes turned red. She had begged to catch a glimpse of Nathan, but her efforts were in vain. Yet, Olivia only needed to stand there to attract Nathan to come to her willingly.
Why can’t Nathan steel his heart against that vile woman even after five years? Has he forgotten that she is the daughter of the enemy who killed his father?
Emma’s face contorted with anger. She lingered for a while before leaving, indignantly.
Meanwhile, Nathan and Olivia traveled to the kindergarten in silence.
It was recess, and a group of kids were playing with building blocks, kicking soccer balls, and enjoying various children’s play facilities on the playground.
Liam, however, sat on the swing, bored and sighing. “This place is boring. Why must I attend this school with a group of childish brats…”
He glanced disdainfully at the boys scrambling for a ball beside him, genuinely feeling that tinkering with computer code at home was far more entertaining.
