Chapter 34: A Hacker Named Grim Reaper
Olivia’s thoughts swirled as the elevator ascended to the top floor of Martinez Group. As the doors opened and they stepped out, Lucas’ assistant was there to greet them and immediately led them to Lucas’ office.
When they entered, Olivia was relieved to see only Lucas present. His warm smile greeted her as he said, “I’ve been waiting for you.”
Olivia returned the smile and teasingly responded, “How could I not show up when Mr. Martinez summons me?”
Lucas snorted lightly, a playful reproach in his tone. “If I hadn’t called you, would you have come on your own? Without King Hawthorne informing me about your return, I doubt you’d have bothered to contact me.”
Olivia couldn’t argue. He was right—she had always preferred to manage things on her own, even when she was abroad, and had become used to relying only on her instincts. Asking others for help had become something of a foreign concept.
She smiled sheepishly. “I apologize! I’ll treat you to a meal later.”
“That’s more like it,” Lucas replied, clearly pleased with her answer.
The three of them settled on the couch. The assistant brought coffee and placed it on the table, then handed Lucas a file. “Mr. Martinez, here are the details of the rental properties you requested. They’re all located around the commercial center, with top-notch layouts and prime locations. Please take a look.”
Lucas nodded and passed the documents to Olivia without even glancing at them. “How are these? Not bad for efficiency, right?”
Olivia chuckled, impressed by the speed with which Lucas had arranged everything. She hadn’t expected him to act so quickly. “Amazing! I should have come to you sooner.”
Lucas proudly tilted his chin. “Take a look and see if anything catches your eye. These office spaces are all aesthetically furnished and should meet your requirements. Of course, if the layout doesn’t suit you, feel free to make changes.”
Olivia nodded, impressed, and began reviewing the documents. It didn’t take long for her to realize that the properties Lucas had found were exceptional.
“No wonder Benjamin and I couldn’t find a suitable office space. These locations are hidden gems,” Olivia remarked, her admiration clear in her voice.
Lucas explained, “In the business world here, it’s all about strategic positioning, especially for the affluent. The Martinez family’s extensive network in real estate opens doors to premium locations.”
She handed the documents to Benjamin, signaling for him to take it from there.
Once the matter was settled, Lucas shifted the conversation. “Is it just the two of you this time? Isn’t this task a bit overwhelming for both of you? Will King be joining you?”
Olivia shook her head. “He’s too busy to join us. However, the headquarters will send a specialized team soon. They should arrive in a few days. After that, our focus will shift to organizing and recruiting.”
“That’s good to hear,” Lucas said with a nod. “With the specialized team and your exceptional programming skills, I’m confident you will succeed.”
Olivia smiled modestly but refrained from explaining further. She wasn’t one to boast, but Lucas wasn’t entirely aware of her full capabilities. While she had gained recognition in the tech industry for her prowess, particularly her work at Horizon Ventures, there was one fact Lucas did not know: Olivia was also known in the hacking world as “Grim Reaper,” ranked third among the top ten hackers in Europe.
Before she could reflect further, there was a sudden knock at the door, interrupting the conversation.
Lucas, assuming it was his assistant, casually said, “Come in.”
But when the door opened, both Lucas and Olivia were taken aback to see not only Lucas’ father, but also… Nathan standing at the doorway.
