Chapter 24 – I Wish She Would Die
Olivia clenched her fists.
Emily’s cruel words had crossed the line.
She had endured so much already, but this?
This was too much.
Nathan’s jaw tightened. He understood Olivia’s frustration.
Yet, deep inside—he still believed Liam was his son.
“I’ve never doubted Liam,” Nathan said, his voice calm yet firm. “But the DNA results don’t match. Until I get to the bottom of this, you can’t leave yet.”
Emily’s face stiffened.
“Why is he still questioning it?” she thought, panic creeping into her heart.
Did he not trust the results?
Did he not trust her?
—
Olivia’s patience snapped.
Her gaze turned icy.
She already knew Emily had tampered with the test.
Her actions made it clear—she would never acknowledge Liam as Nathan’s son.
She didn’t want him in the Carter family.
Fine.
If that was what Emily wanted, Olivia would grant her wish.
“It’s pointless to stay,” she said coldly. “No matter how long I wait, the result won’t change. Don’t make this harder than it already is, Mr. Carter.”
She turned to leave.
But Nathan blocked her path.
They stood at a standstill.
—
Emily frowned.
She didn’t want Nathan tangled up with Olivia any further.
She needed Olivia gone.
She reached for Nathan’s arm, pulling him back.
“Nathan, let’s go,” she urged. “Now that you know the truth, there’s no need to waste time here. If you want a child, have one with Emma! She’s your fiancée—don’t forget that!”
Emma.
At the mention of her name, Olivia’s heart turned to ice.
She let out a cold laugh.
Without hesitation—she ripped her arm from Nathan’s grasp.
And walked away.
Not once did she look back.
Nathan’s hand froze in mid-air.
His fingers curled slightly—almost as if they could still feel the warmth of her skin.
He stared after her, watching her leave.
—
Then, slowly, his sharp gaze shifted to Emily.
Cold. Intense. Piercing.
As if he were seeing right through her.
Emily’s chest tightened.
For a moment, she felt exposed.
Under his scrutiny, she averted her gaze.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” she snapped. “I didn’t say anything wrong! You and Olivia are from different worlds. The Carter family will never accept someone like her!”
Nathan’s voice was ice-cold.
“Even if Olivia and I are at odds—what does that have to do with Liam?“
Emily’s heart skipped a beat.
“Why did you treat Liam that way?” Nathan’s tone sharpened, laced with anger. “You made him stand in the sun until he collapsed from heatstroke!”
Emily stiffened.
A brief flicker of guilt crossed her face.
But she quickly covered it with defiance.
“That boy is disrespectful!” she shot back. “No manners, no discipline! Just like his mother! What kind of positive influence could that woman possibly give him?”
Nathan’s expression darkened.
Emily continued, her voice dripping with contempt.
“It’s a good thing he’s not part of the Carter family. If he were, who knows what kind of person he’d grow up to be?”
—
“Enough.”
Nathan’s voice cut through the air like a knife.
His patience had run out.
“You’re just taking out your hatred for Olivia on Liam,” he accused, his tone sharp. “You never gave him a chance. No matter what he did, you were always going to treat him unfairly.”
Emily’s face twisted with rage.
Her true emotions spilled out.
“That’s right!” she snapped. “I do despise Olivia! I hate her!”
Her voice trembled with resentment.
“I wish she and that child would just die!”
—
Nathan’s blood ran cold.
His fingers curled into fists.
He took a step closer—his presence oppressive.
“Emily Carter.”
His mother flinched.
“Are you even listening to yourself?”
Emily’s chest rose and fell rapidly.
“Have you forgotten who she is?” she shot back. “Who was responsible for your father’s death?”
A chilling silence filled the room.
“She ruined our family, Nathan! Because of her, we suffered for years! Am I supposed to forgive her?”
Nathan’s eyes darkened further.
For a long moment, he said nothing.
—
Then, he let out a low, cold laugh.
“So that’s it.”
Emily frowned.
“You still blame her for something that happened all those years ago.”
His gaze locked onto hers.
“And because of that, you’re willing to do anything.”
Even harm an innocent child.
Emily’s breath hitched.
She had never seen this side of Nathan before.
It was dangerous.
Like a storm brewing in the depths of his eyes.
She opened her mouth to speak—
But Nathan had already turned away.
His expression unreadable.
“This conversation is over.”
Then, without another word—
He walked out.
