Nathan wasn’t fond of such events. After washing his hands in the restroom, he didn’t rush back to the cocktail party.
He could sense that his mother wanted to use this opportunity to bring up his marriage with Emma, but this was precisely what he resented the most.
No one could control his life, let alone when he had clearly rejected the marriage proposal from the Patel family.
He stood in the corridor for a while, with the lively cocktail party on one side and the elevator on the other.
Inexplicably, he took the elevator upstairs without a second thought.
By the time he regained his senses, he was already standing at the entrance of Olivia’s room.
With a slight frown, he hesitated for a moment before slowly raising his hand to press the doorbell.
Before his hand could even reach the doorbell, the door swung open.
It was Olivia.
Startled by the tall figure standing outside the door, she staggered backward.
Nathan was equally taken aback, for he hadn’t anticipated such a coincidence.
Olivia quickly regained her composure, her eyebrows knitting together in confusion. Isn’t he supposed to be downstairs entertaining the guests?
“Do you need something?” she asked.
Her voice pulled him back to reality, and Nathan felt inexplicably uneasy. He cleared his throat lightly and said, “I came to see Liam.”
Then, he gave her a once–over, asking, “Are you alright?”
She seemed much more spirited than when I had seen her in the afternoon, although it could have been due to her makeup.
“I’m fine,” Olivia replied nonchalantly. “I was just about to go downstairs. Liam stayed inside. He won’t be going down.”
“You’re leaving him alone in the room?” Nathan furrowed his brows deeply.
Even though he is more intelligent than most children his age, he is still a child. How could she possibly feel at ease leaving him alone?
“Benjamin will watch him.”
Originally, Olivia didn’t think it was necessary to explain herself so thoroughly, but judging by his expression, it seemed as if her decision to let Liam stay in the room was a grave mistake.
Benjamin?
Nathan lifted his gaze toward the room, his eyes meeting Benjamin’s.
When the latter politely nodded in greeting, Nathan’s eyes narrowed slightly. He found Benjamin standing in the room to be an eyesore.
He wasn’t bothered by Benjamin accompanying Liam, but rather, he was upset that Benjamin could freely come and go from Qlivia’s room.
An inexplicable wave of irritation surged in his heart.
Having just woken up from his nap, Liam was overjoyed to see Nathan. He ran over to his father, his little face looking up in anticipation as he asked, “Daddy, have you come to see me?”
Looking at Liam’s innocent face, Nathan’s irritation faded slightly. A faint smile tugged at the corners of his mouth as he reached out, gently patting his son’s head, saying, “Yes, I came to see you.”

Liam gave him a once over, grinning from ear to ear, and exclaimed, “Daddy, you look so handsome today!”
“Liam, I’m sorry I can’t be with you today. Do you feel bored?” Nathan looked at him apologetically.
“No, I’m not bored, as both you and Mommy are here with me.”
Nathan gently pinched his cheek. “Once the party is over, I’ll take you out to have some fun tomorrow, alright?”

“Sure.” Liam obediently nodded. “Daddy, Mommy, go ahead with your work. I’m fine by myself, Mr. Hayes is here with me.”
Olivia quietly observed the interaction between Liam and Nathan, a complex look surfacing in her eyes.
“You’re such a good boy.”
Nathan gave Liam’s head another pat before standing back up, his gaze falling on Olivia. He then said, “Let’s go.”
No sooner had he finished speaking than he took the lead, turning to walk toward the elevator.
