Meanwhile, inside the quiet CEO’s office at Carter Group, Nathan sat in the boss‘ chair, attentively dealing with paperwork.
Suddenly, the door was pushed open from the outside.
“Ethan, have you forgotten the rules?” Nathan didn’t look up, assuming it was Ethan. There was a hint of annoyance in his deep voice.
“It’s me.” A familiar voice echoed.
Nathan’s hands, which were shuffling through files, halted. He slowly lifted his head, and upon seeing the newcomer, he subtly furrowed his brows.
“Why are you here?” Nathan asked in a deep voice.
Emily snorted. “Had I not come, I wouldn’t have known that you’ve been secretly entangled with that b*tch behind my back!”
Seeing her angry demeanor and listening to her unpleasant words, Nathan could roughly figure out what was going on.
However, he furrowed his brows and feigned ignorance. “I don’t understand what you mean.”
Emily strode up to Nathan and sternly questioned him, “You’re still going to play dumb? Tell me, out of all the companies in the country, why did you specifically choose to collaborate with Horizon Ventures?” She paused to take a deep breath before continuing, “Nate, listen to me. I will not agree! I absolutely won’t!” Emily huffed.
“Mom, you have to agree, whether you like it or not.” Nathan’s handsome face remained impassive, his tone as calm as if he was discussing something utterly mundane. “I’m the person in power in the company now. I have the right to make decisions.”
“You!” Emily didn’t anticipate him to say that. She was so infuriated that she was momentarily at a loss for words.
“Also, I made that decision after conducting a thorough market analysis.” At that point, a certain emotion fleetingly crossed the depths of Nathan’s eyes. He continued, “I didn’t consider collaborating with Horizon Ventures because of any other reason.”
He knew how much his mother despised Olivia, so he made his point clear right away.
However, Emily didn’t believe him at all. She scoffed coldly. “Nate, if you’re thinking of collaborating with that b*tch, Olivia, it will happen over my dead body! It’s impossible otherwise!”
Confronted with Emily’s threats, Nathan narrowed his eyes, his expression clearly showing some displeasure. His tone also cooled. “Mom, you should be well aware of how important the High–Tech Industrial Park is to the company-”
Before she could finish speaking, Emily hastily interrupted her, “This isn’t your reason for collaborating
with Horizon Ventures!”
Upon hearing that, Nathan raised an eyebrow. “Several companies have previously proposed collaborations with Carter Group, but none were up to par. It’s not that I rejected them, but they only have their

He was implying that even Emily, the chairman of Carter Group, couldn’t alter that decision.
