Chapter 10: Staying
Liam felt a little flustered at the news. Are we really going back? He hugged his mother’s neck, wanting to persuade her to stay longer, but then he heard Olivia say, “Get a refund. There’s no rush to go back. Find a house for me as soon as possible. We might have to stay in the country for a while.”
This decision surprised everyone in the room. However, Benjamin and Mr. Valtor were accustomed to Olivia’s methods of decision-making and knew she always had her reasons, so they didn’t question her. On the other hand, Liam was thrilled. Great! We can stay, and I can look for Daddy!
Benjamin worked efficiently, as always. In less than three days, he found several suitable properties. Olivia took Liam to view the houses, and they finally settled on a relatively quiet villa area called Scenica Bay.
The realtor, who was also present, took the opportunity to boast about the property. “This newly built residential area was completed just two years ago. It’s quiet yet centrally located, with everything you need—shopping malls, schools, and easy access to transportation. The river is nearby, and this area is very popular. You’re lucky! The owner is eager to move abroad, so they’re selling it at a reduced price of thirty million!”
Olivia raised an eyebrow at the mention of the price and chuckled lightly. “Twenty-eight million. I’ll sign immediately.”
The realtor was stunned. He had haggled with clients before, but never with such confidence. “Miss, are you joking? This isn’t a farmer’s market! You can’t just bargain like this. Thirty million is already the lowest!”
Olivia ignored his protests, her eyes narrowing as she stared him down. “Do you think you can fool me just because I’ve returned from abroad? I’ve done my homework on the local housing market. You’re already making a net profit of two hundred thousand from the twenty-eight million! It’s still a high price, yet you started with thirty million… So, what’s the deal? If we agree, I’ll sign right now. If not, I’ll look at other options.”
The realtor was visibly intimidated. He had seen many clients negotiate, but none like Olivia. Benjamin, standing off to the side, spoke up with authority, “Stop stalling. Ms. Olivia doesn’t like to waste time.”
Realizing he couldn’t argue further, the realtor broke into a cold sweat and finally conceded. “Okay. It’s a deal. I’ll handle the paperwork.”
The lease was signed, and the settlement was finalized within a few days. Once they moved in, Liam was overjoyed to realize that Olivia had decided to settle in the country. “This is great! I can live in Wirthon with Mommy from now on!”
Olivia, looking down at him with a knowing expression, asked, “Are you happy to live here with me, or do you have other reasons?”
Liam, quick on his feet, smiled and replied, “Of course, I’m happy to live here with you, Mommy.”
“I hope so!” Olivia shook her head, but she didn’t press him further about his intentions.
Benjamin hesitated for a moment before speaking up. “Ms. Olivia, why did you suddenly decide to settle down here? It’s quite unexpected.” He had known Olivia for years and was puzzled by her sudden decision.
Olivia paused, realizing she hadn’t explained herself earlier. “I didn’t mention this before, but I’ve been assigned to work here. I’m originally from Wirthon, so I had to return sooner or later. Consider this an early adaptation to life here,” she explained.
Benjamin nodded, satisfied with the answer, and didn’t push any further.
Meanwhile, Nathan had just finished dealing with a pile of urgent documents in his office at Carter Group. He was resting, massaging his temples when Ethan entered, placing a cup of coffee on the table.
“Mr. Carter, here’s a pick-me-up,” Ethan said respectfully.
Nathan lowered his hand and nodded. “Mm.” He raised the cup and took a sip. The bitter flavor filled his mouth, instantly sharpening his senses. He looked at Ethan, his expression neutral. “How is the investigation going?”
