Chapter 1: Never Come Back
The rain poured heavily through the night, and dark clouds shrouded the city. Olivia stood in the rain before Carter Manor, staring at the tall, lanky man before her. He stood under the porch, his deep, dark eyes as cloudy as the night sky. His gaze gleamed with indescribable emotions as he looked at the disheveled Olivia.
After a moment, he took out a bank card and a plane ticket from his pocket, throwing them at her. He said coldly and ruthlessly, “Leave and don’t come back!” With that, he turned and went into the house.
Olivia watched him, shivering. She had always known Nathan hated her! Her heart felt empty, and chills ran down her spine as the rain poured down heavily. After some time, she picked up her few belongings and walked away, head down, fighting back the tears.
A crack in the bedroom curtains on the second floor revealed Nathan, watching the thin figure gradually disappear into the heavy rain. His fists clenched tightly at his sides, and, in a fit of anger, he punched the window.
Emma stood at the door with a glass of water. She wanted to enter but unexpectedly witnessed this scene. A cold, bitter expression flashed in her eyes. She resented that Nathan had given Olivia money to send her abroad. Why was he still secretly watching her from the study? Olivia was nothing more than a lowly woman. What’s so special about her? A slightly cruel expression formed on Emma’s face.
Half an hour later, Olivia walked aimlessly down a dark, empty street, dragging her luggage. Suddenly, a motorcycle appeared in the distance, speeding toward her. Before she could react, the rider snatched away the few belongings she had left. She was knocked to the ground and dragged several feet, pain shooting through her body. Her vision began to blur, and everything faded to black as darkness consumed her, plunging her into unconsciousness.
Five Years Later
A graceful figure sat in the general manager’s office at Horizon Ventures’ headquarters in Germany. She had delicate features, her eyes scanning the documents in her hand as she sat at an African redwood desk. She worked with precision, gliding through multiple lines of text effortlessly.
A faint sandalwood fragrance lingered in the air, and a cup of coffee sat beside her. She wore a limited-edition haute couture suit that had just debuted at Paris Fashion Week, which perfectly outlined her slender figure.
Her hair was pulled into a high bun, giving her a relaxed yet experienced appearance. Her makeup was flawless, and she exuded charm. Though beautiful and elegant, she was aloof, dignified, and not someone to be messed with.
At that moment, there was a sudden knock on the door. Olivia’s assistant, Benjamin Hayes, hurriedly entered, his face filled with anxiety. “Something’s wrong, Ms. Olivia. Your son has run away from home again!”
Olivia frowned, sounding slightly displeased. “Why are you panicking? It’s not his first time running away. He’ll be back soon.”
“It’s not like that…” Benjamin muttered, clearly frustrated. “This time, he’s gone abroad and even took Mr. Valtor with him!”
“What did you say?” Olivia’s face turned cold as she put down the documents in her hand. “Where did they go?”
“They went to Emberfall in Wirthon,” Benjamin quickly replied, handing his phone to Olivia. Two blinking dots on the screen marked Liam’s current coordinates.
Olivia’s expression darkened. “Does he think he’s invincible?” She immediately took out her phone to call her son, William, who was usually nicknamed Liam.
The phone rang, but an automated voice quickly came on. “Sorry, the number you have dialed is currently unavailable…”
Olivia was stunned, her eyes darkening as she stared at the screen. Why did they go to Emberfall? What was that kid up to?
