Chapter 42
The air in the private room grew tense.
Terrence paused for half a second before stepping inside. His sharp gaze swept over the crowd.
“What did you say?” His voice was low, dangerous.
The man who had asked the question gulped. “Ms. Schwartz… Valerie. She always used to follow you everywhere. She never missed any of these events…”
The atmosphere grew even heavier.
Indeed, for the past seven years, Valerie had never missed a single banquet, social gathering, or even casual get-together that Terrence attended.
She had always been by his side.
But now…
She wasn’t.
Terrence’s expression darkened further. He tugged at his collar, feeling suffocated.
“She has nothing to do with me anymore,” he said coldly, striding to his seat.
The others exchanged glances.
Nothing to do with him?
That didn’t seem to be the case.
Everyone in their circle had heard about the commotion at the City Hall.
Valerie had gone to marry Ricky Murray.
Terrence had dragged her away in front of everyone.
And yet… here he was, acting as if none of it had happened?
Malcolm Floyd, the birthday host, smirked as he raised his glass. “Terrence, you’re not in a good mood, huh?”
Terrence shot him a look. “Drink your wine.”
Malcolm chuckled. “Alright, alright. But seriously, I heard Valerie and Ricky actually got their marriage license.”
The glass in Terrence’s hand nearly cracked.
“…What did you say?”
Malcolm, seeing the flicker of emotion in Terrence’s usually indifferent eyes, raised an eyebrow. “You didn’t know? The license went through. Valerie Schwartz is now Mrs. Murray.”
The entire room fell into silence.
A storm brewed in Terrence’s eyes.
“Impossible.” His voice was ice-cold.
Malcolm shrugged. “You can check for yourself.”
Terrence clenched his jaw.
Valerie actually married Ricky?
His fingers tightened around his glass.
Valerie had always chased after him, always loved him…
But now, she was someone else’s wife?
A bitter, unfamiliar emotion twisted in his chest.
For the first time in his life…
Terrence felt panic.
