Chapter 40
Valerie blew away the stray hairs on her cheeks, took a deep breath, and looked at the man she had loved for seven years.
“Terrence, do you think this is interesting?”
Terrence’s jaw clenched, his frustration barely contained. “That’s what I should be asking you. Just because I didn’t go to get the marriage license with you, you decided to get one with another man? Valerie, you’re becoming more and more daring.”
His teeth ground together as he thought about it.
Valerie had actually intended to marry Ricky!
This woman was too bold!
Valerie closed her eyes briefly, taking a moment to steady herself before opening them again.
She didn’t want to argue with Terrence anymore.
It was pointless.
“You wanted to be with Margaret, and I’ve already made it happen for you. What else do you want?”
Terrence frowned, his expression darkening. “When did I ever say I wanted to be with Margaret? I’ve told you countless times—I treat her like a sister!”
Valerie pressed her temples, exhaustion washing over her. “Alright. Then do me a favor. Let’s just break up.”
“I disagree!”
Valerie felt like she was trapped in an endless cycle with him.
“If it’s because I broke up with you and made you lose face, then fine—you propose it.”
“I said I disagree!” The veins on Terrence’s forehead pulsed angrily.
Valerie stared at him, speechless.
Half a second passed.
“Stop the car!” she ordered.
“Don’t stop!” Terrence countered immediately.
The assistant in the front seat stiffened, unsure of what to do.
Valerie’s lips pressed into a thin line when she saw that the assistant had no intention of stopping. A dangerous glint flashed in her eyes.
Before Terrence could react, she suddenly hurled herself toward the car window—
Bang!
Hiss!
Two sounds rang out simultaneously.
Terrence’s breath caught in his throat as he saw the blood trickling down Valerie’s forehead. Panic flared in his eyes.
Before she could collapse, he caught her in his arms, his grip firm yet trembling.
“Go to the hospital!” he barked.
The assistant in the front seat snapped out of his shock and immediately changed direction, speeding toward the nearest hospital.
Valerie had been ruthless.
The wound ran deep, slicing straight through the dermis.
She needed stitches.
Seven in total.
Terrence sat by her bedside, his gaze fixed on Valerie’s pale face. His mind replayed the scene of her silently enduring the pain as the doctor stitched her up.
She hadn’t made a sound.
His chest ached at the sight of her.
This wasn’t the woman he once knew.
The Valerie he had known used to love him unconditionally, no matter what he did.
Now…
She wanted nothing to do with him.
