Chapter 34
They must have cost a fortune.
But what Terrence lacked the least was money.
Terrence, am I just a pet to you? Can you just come and go as you please?” Valerie’s tone was unnervingly calm. She slowly lifted her gaze, a subtle smile dancing in her eyes. “But let me tell you, the past is the past.”
“Now stay away from me!”
With that, she grabbed the diamond ring Terrence had offered her and threw it fiercely.
The ring grazed Terrence’s forehead before falling to the ground.
Without a second glance, Valerie turned around and walked away, leaving Terrence behind without hesitation.
The anger that had been building up inside Terrence exploded. Within a few quick steps, he caught up to her and grabbed her arm. “Valerie, when will you stop messing around?”
“Messes around? I already made it clear to you.” Valerie gritted her teeth, her voice a low growl. “It’s over between us!”
“It’s over when I say it’s over!” she snapped.
Terrence’s patience snapped as well. Valerie’s words were like a slap to his pride, and his gaze grew colder as he seethed. “Do you understand?”
Valerie let out a bitter laugh, her frustration mounting. “Alright, listen carefully. I’m getting married tomorrow. Do you understand what I’m saying now?”
Terrence’s grip tightened on her wrist, but soon his expression shifted to one of disdain. “Marry? Who else would you marry besides me, Valerie? At least come up with a better excuse.”
Valerie took a deep breath, her face growing more resigned. “Let go of me.”
“Sure,” he said, though his eyes remained mocking. “But you have to promise not to be mad at me.”
Valerie gave a hollow “Okay” before he could insist further.
Terrence looked at her, his frown deepening. Something felt off. Her expression wasn’t one of anger anymore—it was as though all the fight had drained from her, leaving only exhaustion.
But he didn’t care. As long as Valerie stopped fighting, it was fine.
“That’s right.” Terrence raised a hand to pat her head, but she quickly avoided him, her movements swift and cold.
He withdrew his hand, his expression unreadable. “I already got the plane tickets. We’ll fly back to Houston the day after tomorrow.”
Valerie’s response was nothing more than a lifeless hum, as if her words were nothing more than an automatic reply.
Terrence frowned. He didn’t like the emptiness he saw in her.
But she had been through a lot these past few days, and he figured she was just tired. He said nothing more.
“Let’s go back to the hotel.”
