Chapter 33
Valerie thought of Terrence and Margaret.
When they took wedding photos one day, would Terrence also smile so brightly?
Valerie chuckled to herself.
That had nothing to do with her.
She was ready for a fresh start.
Lost in her thoughts, Valerie didn’t hear the sound of the horn from behind her car. When she finally snapped out of it, she was met with sounds of surprise.
Following the crowd’s gaze, Valerie was taken aback by what she saw. A waiter was pushing a small cart filled with roses, slowly approaching her. She looked behind the waiter, but there was no one else in sight.
Soon, the waiter stopped in front of her.
“Ms. Schwartz, these are roses from Mr. Crawford.”
Valerie opened her mouth to speak, but before she could, another wave of exclamations rose around her. She looked up and saw Terrence stepping out of a car, dressed in a black suit. His tall frame, perfect posture, and sharp features made the onlookers gasp. The girls in the crowd couldn’t help but cheer.
But for Valerie, there was something far more important than his appearance. It was the diamond ring in his hand, sparkling brilliantly under the sunlight.
The ring was enormous, as big as a pigeon’s egg, and extremely rare.
“Valerie,” Terrence said as he walked toward her. Instead of kneeling on one knee, he simply held the diamond ring out to her. “Can you stop being mad at me now?”
Valerie’s eyes flickered as they swept over the roses and the ring.
“So, are you saying that we should get back together?” she asked, her voice steady.
“Of course, Valerie. After we go back to Houston, I’ll marry you right away, and we’ll have a big, luxurious wedding,” Terrence replied, his tone a bit too condescending for her liking.
Valerie’s eyes darkened as a memory surfaced—Margaret’s birthday a year ago.
Terrence had given her a scarf, one that he had woven himself. The scarf was terrible—awkwardly stitched and far from elegant. But it was clear that Terrence had put a lot of effort into making it.
At the time, Valerie had thought that the scarf was for her, especially since Valentine’s Day was coming up a month later. She believed that it was an expression of his love for her.
Until…
Valerie snapped back to reality, her gaze once again falling on the roses and the diamond ring in front of her.
