Chapter 31
Terrence shook Ricky’s hand and said, “You too.”
Three seconds later, both men simultaneously let go of each other’s hands.
Ricky casually asked, “When do you plan to leave D.C., Mr. Crawford?”
Valerie’s face flashed across Terrence’s mind.
This time, she was really angry.
When she fell asleep last night, there were still tears at the corners of her eyes.
After all the years together, Terrence had never once comforted Valerie when she was upset with him. Every time, before he realized she was mad, Valerie had already calmed herself and returned to him with a smile.
So… he never thought that Valerie needed to be coaxed.
But this time, he knew he had to do so.
However, he realized it wouldn’t be that difficult to please her.
“I’m staying for a few more days,” Terrence said.
“Oh…” Ricky’s gentle smile held a hint of cunning. “That’s perfect. I’m getting married tomorrow. Please come to my wedding.”
“You’re having the wedding the same day you’re getting registered?” Terrence raised an eyebrow.
“Yes, because it’s an arranged marriage, we don’t plan on having a grand celebration. It’ll be just a small gathering.”
The Murray family was one of the wealthiest families in Washington D.C., but the wedding was so understated that it piqued Terrence’s curiosity about the bride.
“Who is your fiancée?”
“You’ll find out tomorrow.” Ricky’s eyes sparkled with a knowing smile. “As you know, my bride was chosen for me.”
“Originally, my mother-in-law had arranged for her younger sister to marry me, but when she saw that I was disabled, she pushed the less favored older sister onto me. When you see her, Mr. Crawford, you’ll understand.”
Terrence squinted, sensing there was more to Ricky’s words.
Still, he wasn’t interested in his fiancée. He exchanged a few more words with Ricky before heading out.
The assistant, who had been waiting nearby, asked Ricky, “Mr. Crawford, why didn’t you just tell Mr. Crawford that it’s Ms. Valerie Schwartz you’re marrying tomorrow?”
Ricky smiled contentedly, his delicate features glowing in the warm yellow light. “It wouldn’t be interesting if the mystery was uncovered too quickly.”
