Chapter 30
Terrence frowned with displeasure. In his eyes, Valerie had gone too far this time. He had given her so many chances. Why couldn’t she just take them and come back to him? He didn’t go to get the marriage license with her! They could go another day! What was the big deal?
He walked over to Valerie’s side, bent down, and scooped her up in a bridal carry. Valerie was suddenly lifted off the ground, and instinctively, she grabbed onto Terrence’s neck out of fear. When she came to her senses, she immediately began struggling, shouting, “Let go of me! Terrence, let go!”
Terrence hadn’t recovered. His stomach still ached faintly, but he endured it silently, carrying Valerie to the bedside. He laid her down on the bed and collapsed beside her, exhausted. With a deep, magnetic voice, he said helplessly, “Stop!”
Valerie’s body stiffened. Terrence’s breath scorched her neck, making her heart race. But there was no joy as in the past—only disgust.
“Let go of me!” She turned her head and tried to meet Terrence’s gaze. “Terrence, don’t you feel dirty? Aren’t you afraid Margaret will find out and be upset?”
Terrence’s gaze grew colder. He got up from Valerie and said, “Margaret is not as petty as you.”
Valerie trembled for a moment, then looked at the bright moon outside the window and smiled silently. She saw this coming. In Terrence’s heart, Margaret was pure and innocent, so how could she be petty like Valerie?
She closed her eyes and no longer paid attention to Terrence beside the bed. Soon, she fell asleep.
The next day, Valerie woke up. Terrence had already disappeared. Although her heart felt empty, she felt much lighter. After last night, Terrence would no longer bother her.
Valerie glanced at the time on her phone. It was Thursday. Tomorrow would be the day she and Ricky got married.
At the Murray Group reception room, Ricky pushed the wheelchair and approached Terrence, extending his hand.
