He took a deep breath and continued, “Valerie, I admit, this time I brought Margaret back to Houston without consulting you. It was my fault.”
For the first time, the arrogant Terrence apologized, though his tone sounded unnatural. “But you don’t have to go too far!”
Valerie looked at Terrence and suddenly smiled. As the smile lingered, two glistening teardrops fell from the corner of her eyes. “So, you think I showed up here because of you?”
She had been gone from Houston for almost a week.
Terrence hadn’t even noticed.
How ridiculous!
Valerie laughed bitterly to herself.
In the end, only endless sorrow remained.
She had truly wasted these seven years.
As Terrence looked at the tears in Valerie’s eyes, an odd feeling of annoyance washed over him.
There was panic in her eyes, as if she feared losing something.
“If it’s not for me, is it for going home? But haven’t you been disconnected from that home for a long time?”
Valerie was taken aback and asked, “How did you know?”
She had gone to Houston to study, cutting herself off from Jazlynn entirely.
She hadn’t told anyone about it.
How did Terrence know?
“You… haven’t been able to understand the situation, considering you’ve stayed in Houston for seven years without ever returning.”
The flicker of hope in Valerie’s eyes faded quickly.
It was exactly what she had expected.
She shouldn’t have had any expectations for Terrence.
Fortunately, she had distanced herself, so she wouldn’t have to experience the heartbreak she had felt in the past.
Her gaze dropped to the wrist that Terrence still held so tightly.
“Let go of me!”
Her voice was brisk, but firm.
Terrence’s heart skipped a beat.
He didn’t like this aggressive Valerie.
He preferred the gentle, non-confrontational Valerie of the past.
“Enough is enough. It was indeed my fault for not going to get the marriage license with you, but don’t you think you’ve gone too far?”
With all her strength, Valerie broke free from Terrence’s grasp. Then, without a glance back, she walked away.
