Chapter 24: He Wouldn’t Be Your Fiancé, Would He?
An Awkward Reunion
Seraphina West practically sprinted toward the tall, handsome mixed-race man, her smile as dazzling as a sunflower in full bloom.
Her attitude toward this “old classmate” was completely different from how she treated Lily Lane.
“Jason! Oh my god, it’s been ages! You remember me, right?”
The man—Jason Reynolds—gave her a blank look.
“Who… are you?”
Lily Lane let out a snicker.
She leaned over to Sonya.
“She’s throwing herself at someone who doesn’t even remember her.”
Sonya tugged at Lily’s sleeve.
“Let’s go inside.”
“No way. I need to watch this.”
Seraphina’s smile twitched.
Luna Stone, sensing her friend’s humiliation, jumped in.
“Jason, this is Seraphina West—our high school’s prom queen.”
Jason tilted his head.
“Huh. I thought my uncle was the prom king and queen?”
Luna Stone laughed nervously.
“Yeah… your uncle was both prom king and queen.”
To save Seraphina from further embarrassment, Luna pivoted quickly.
“The school had to rebuild its walls every few months because students from other schools kept climbing them to get a glimpse of him.”
Seraphina forced a laugh.
“Of course! We even formed a ‘Flower Protection Society’ to keep other schools from stealing our prom king.”
“I was the head of the Sixth-Grade branch,” Luna added with a chuckle.
Lily Lane shook her head.
“I’m cringing for them.”
Sonya agreed.
“Same.”
Julian & Jason: A Tense History
Desperate to regain her footing, Seraphina yanked Julian Jennings forward.
“You two were classmates since middle school, right? And even in the same class in high school?”
Julian’s expression darkened.
“We just met again a few days ago.”
Seraphina blinked.
“Oh really?”
“Yeah. About a business project.”
“That’s great! Since you’re old classmates, I’m sure your collaboration will be smooth sailing.”
Jason leaned back lazily, smirking.
He held out a hand.
“Old friend, you’re not still mad at me, are you?”
Julian scoffed, shaking his hand briefly.
“Collaboration requires mutual benefit. If the odds are stacked against us, there’s no point.”
Jason grinned.
“I admire your ability to let go.”
“It’s not just Jennings Corp letting go. Reynolds Corp did too. We’re both the client and the supplier.”
Jason chuckled.
“Still different. Many companies are desperate to work with us.”
Julian’s expression soured.
Seraphina, sensing the tension, signaled to Luna Stone.
Luna quickly grabbed Jason’s arm.
“It’s too noisy out here. Let’s head inside for a drink.”
Jason smirked, brushing his fingers under Luna’s chin, making her giggle.
As they passed Sonya and Lily Lane, Luna shot them a knowing look.
Lily Lane nudged Sonya.
“See? There’s always someone bigger and better. Even Seraphina West has to butter up this guy. Even Julian Jennings can get shut down.”
Sonya laughed.
Seraphina’s True Intentions
As soon as Jason and Luna disappeared, Seraphina turned back to Julian.
“Julian, since you and Jason are on speaking terms… can you help me get a role in the new historical drama his company is investing in?”
Julian frowned.
“So you brought me here just to ask for a favor?”
Seraphina pouted.
“I can’t do it myself! I don’t know him, but you do.”
“We’re not friends anymore.”
“Because of that incident? It’s been years! Just apologize for me.”
Julian sighed, pulling his arm away.
“I have something else to do.”
Seraphina grabbed him again.
“Julian, please. You wouldn’t want me to be upset, would you?”
Julian hesitated.
Then sighed again.
“…Fine.”
Luna’s Bombshell
Luna Stone suddenly emerged from the private room, grinning.
“What’s wrong with you two? I invited him, and you’re still chatting out here?”
Seraphina dragged Julian inside.
“Maybe we can talk more about that project.”
Julian sighed.
“There’s nothing to talk about.”
Luna suddenly turned to Sonya.
Her eyes gleamed.
“Sonya… do you know that guy?”
Sonya frowned.
“Why are you asking?”
Luna laughed.
“Hah! You don’t? Look at her! She’s a joke!”
Seraphina joined in, fake concern in her voice.
“Sonya, I’m worried you’ll be cyberbullied again.”
Lily Lane crossed her arms.
“What are you two giggling about?”
Luna Stone grinned.
“You said the villa in Clouds Wood Block 8 was bought for you by your fiancé, right?”
Sonya froze.
She hadn’t actually said that—Seraphina must have told Luna.
Luna’s smile widened.
“Hahaha… You don’t recognize him?”
Sonya’s heart pounded.
“What are you trying to say?”
Luna leaned in.
“He’s the owner of the villa in Clouds Wood Block 8.”
Sonya stiffened.
“…Impossible.”
Luna laughed louder.
“So, Jason Reynolds is your fiancé? Sonya, are you crazy? He’s from the Reynolds family! The Reynoldses—who started in shipbuilding, then real estate, tech, entertainment… They’re at the top of every industry! Even in your wildest dreams, you wouldn’t dream of marrying into that family.”
Seraphina sighed dramatically.
“Luna, don’t say that. It’s embarrassing for Sonya.”
Luna smirked.
“And the fake property deed? Hilarious. Jason owns so many villas. I don’t know how you rented it, but you rented it. Just admit it—before you become a laughingstock.”
Lily Lane stepped forward.
“What are you talking about? That villa is Sonya’s!”
Luna ignored her.
“Seraphina, let’s go. We have things to do.”
Seraphina pulled Julian along, glancing at Sonya before entering the private room.
Julian—furious—turned back.
“Sonya, if you don’t have a place to live, I’ll buy you one. Just don’t embarrass me!”
Sonya scoffed.
“Embarrass you?”
Julian huffed.
“We’re looking at houses tomorrow. Pick one, and I’ll buy it. Then move out of that villa!”
He stormed inside.
Sonya blinked.
“…He’s got issues, right?”
Lily Lane nodded.
“Major issues.”
She hesitated.
“But… is that villa really from your fiancé? Did he trick you?”
