Chapter 15: Lower Class

The Mystery of the Leaked Photos

Sonya typed out three words—

“You did this?”

Then, she deleted them.

Henry wasn’t in the entertainment industry.

Even if he had power, he couldn’t compete with the Jennings family.

She leaned back, thinking.

“He probably couldn’t stand Seraphina’s team bullying me. He had those photos, so he posted them,” she said nonchalantly.

Ashley, however, shook her head.

“It’s not that simple.”

As if to prove her point, Seraphina’s team rushed to apologize to Sonya. They also suppressed the scandalous photos of Seraphina and Liam.

That afternoon, Seraphina was discharged from the hospital.

A Small Moment of Peace

By the time Sonya left work, the fans were gone.

Her life was finally returning to normal.

She took the subway home, and on a whim, she bought flowers.

Holding them close, she felt like she was embracing peace and beauty.

She took a picture and posted it on social media:

“Today was a nice day. I like today.”

Minutes later, Lucy commented—

“Your eyes are really bright today. You finally saw the jerk for who he is. Julian Jennings, yeah, I’m talking about you.”

Sonya chuckled.

“He’s blocked. He won’t see this.”

Lucy sent a smirking emoji.

“His friends will tell him.”

Then—

Leo: “What? I don’t get it.”

Jake: “Me neither.”

Lucy: 🤬 “I’ll be back soon. You two are dead!”

Sonya’s good mood lasted—until she reached the villa.

Jessica Jennings: A Woman with No Manners

As she passed Julian’s house, the gate opened.

A maid stepped out, carrying a package.

When she spotted Sonya, she looked flustered.

“Miss Ella, it seems to be from your aunt—”

Before she could finish—

A sharp voice rang out.

“What are you waiting for? Throw it in the trash!”

Jessica Jennings.

Julian’s mother.

She pinched her nose, her face twisted in disgust.

“We don’t need that! It smells awful; it almost knocked me out.”

Then, she spotted Sonya.

Her expression darkened.

“You’re like a leech. My son dumped you, and you’re still hanging around.”

Jessica laughed mockingly.

“Hah! Of course. Why would I expect someone like you to have self-respect? You can only cling to men for a good life. But I warn you—stay away.

“Seraphina is carrying my grandchild. If you upset her, I won’t let you off easily.”

Jessica had always despised Sonya.

Even when she was Julian’s girlfriend, Jessica would insult her every chance she got.

But if she thought Sonya would tolerate it now, she was dead wrong.

Sonya crossed her arms, raising an eyebrow.

“Mrs. Jennings, should I get you a megaphone?”

Jessica’s nostrils flared.

“I don’t need that! You’re embarrassing yourself!”

Sonya tilted her head.

“I’m not. I’m not the one yelling at someone else on their doorstep.”

Jessica’s face turned red.

“You—! I’m your elder!”

Sonya smirked.

“An elder with no manners.”

“I didn’t do anything wrong. It’s your son who cheated. Yell all you want. I can record this and post it online. Let everyone see what kind of person you are.”

Jessica’s eyes widened in fury.

“You!”

Sonya ignored her and walked up to the maid, glancing into the package.

Inside were sausages and cured meats.

Her aunt’s yearly gift.

Sonya reached for it, but—

Jessica shoved the box.

The sausages and meats spilled onto the ground.

“Tell your aunt to stop sending this worthless garbage! We find it disgusting!”

Sonya’s blood boiled.

She stared at the sausages on the ground

Her aunt’s hard work.

She turned to Jessica.

“The sausages and meats aren’t dirty or smelly. Your heart is.”

Jessica gasped.

“How dare you?!”

Her rage boiled over.

“Now that you’ve offended me and the Jennings family, we won’t let you survive in this city. Get out of the city hospital, get out of Chicago!”

Jessica stormed back inside.

“This is the most luxurious community in Chicago! Not everyone belongs here!

“She enjoyed the benefits of being with my son! Now she’ll live where she belongs—with the lower class!”

Sonya didn’t waste another second.

She picked up the sausages and meats and carried the box—

Straight into Henry’s villa.

Jessica, watching from behind the gate, screamed.

“SHE’S STILL SPENDING MY SON’S MONEY! HOLY SHIT!”

A Warm Gift

Back home, Sonya put the flowers in a vase.

Her anger faded.

They’re insignificant people. Why bother getting angry?

She cleaned the sausages and meats and placed them on the balcony to air.

Inside the box, she found dried seafood.

And a note.

“Sonya, I’m Henry’s grandmother. I often hear your aunt talk about you. I like you. I’m so happy you’re marrying Henry.

“The seafood is from me. Henry cooks well; ask him to make soup or porridge for you. Tell me if there’s anything you want.”

Sonya could picture her face

Warm, gentle, kind.

She called her aunt, thanking her for the gift.

Then, she cooked rice and stir-fried sausages.

She took a picture of the flowers on the table and sent it to Henry.

“Your grandma sent me seafood. I don’t know how to cook it.”

A while later, Henry replied.

“She told me. I’ll make you seafood porridge when I get back.”

Sonya smiled.

“Okay.”

Henry: “The flowers are beautiful.”

Sonya: “Yeah.”

Then—

“I saw your post, but I’m waiting for you to send me one privately.”

Sonya paused.

This is strange…

They hadn’t gone through the stages of falling in love.

Yet, they were already living like a couple.

Then, another message.

“Let’s renovate our home in the style you like.”

Sonya looked around the empty villa.

The bare walls.

The single bed.

Renovation was needed.

“I’ve never done it before.”

Henry: “Ask Luke for help. There’s a card in the shoe rack drawer. I’ll text you the password. Get what you need.”

“Okay.”

They exchanged goodnights.

And good mornings.

Sonya fell asleep with her phone.

The Next Day

A knock on the door.

Sonya looked up from her desk.

The director’s secretary stood before her.

Her expression cold.

“Doctor Ella, you’re fired.”
