Chapter 13: Are You Crazy?
A Drunken Mistake—Or a New Beginning?
Sonya bolted upright, grabbing her phone.
She needed to correct her mistake.
But—
Henry had already replied.
“Okay.”
Just one word.
Sonya froze, staring at the screen.
She had been provoked by Julian. He acted as if his marriage was the only thing that mattered, as if she were nothing.
She had even told him she was marrying someone else.
And he had just laughed.
Sonya slapped her forehead.
How do I salvage this?
Before she could type anything, another message came in.
“I told my family about the wedding date. They think it’s a great day.”
Her breath caught.
Her fingers hovered over the keyboard.
“It might not be such a great day,” she typed nervously.
“Why?”
Sonya hesitated before answering.
“Because my ex is getting married on the same day.”
Henry’s response came instantly.
“Then let’s have a spectacular wedding and piss him off.”
Sonya blinked.
“You’re not angry?”
“Why would I be?”
“That I’m using you?”
“There must be a reason for you to suddenly agree to marry me. If this is it, I understand and accept. And I’m confident you won’t regret it.”
Sonya held the phone close to her heart, as if she could feel Henry through it.
Living Across from Julian
Halfway through her porridge, Sonya fell asleep.
Luke woke her up when they arrived home.
“Thank you again,” she murmured.
Luke waved it off.
“It’s my job. The more you need me, the more I earn.”
Sonya smiled.
“Good night.”
As Luke drove off, she saw Jake dropping off Julian.
Julian was finally sober, though his face was still clouded.
The moment he saw Sonya, his lips curled in a smirk.
“I thought you had more backbone. You left with your bags, but here you are.”
Sonya ignored him and nodded at Jake before entering her house.
Julian froze.
Then—
“What’s this? She’s living across from me?”
Jake sighed, already anticipating Julian’s ego trip.
“Go inside, Julian.”
Julian scoffed, shaking his head.
She still loves me.
She can’t let go.
His thoughts spiraled further—
After I marry Seraphina, I’ll make Sonya my mistress. She’ll say yes.
Jake glared at him.
“Stop dreaming. Sonya won’t agree.”
Julian smirked.
“Just wait. I’ll get her.”
As he reached his door, his fingers hovered over the keypad.
“What’s our anniversary again?”
Jake rolled his eyes.
“August 5th, 2016. It’s also Sonya’s birthday.”
Julian snapped his fingers.
“Oh, right.”
Jake sighed.
“Change the password.”
Julian chuckled.
“Right. Seraphina’s birthday. I won’t forget that.”
The Hospital Scandal
The next morning, Sonya walked into work—
And froze.
A crowd of Seraphina’s fans gathered at the entrance, holding banners.
“Fire Sonya Ella!”
“She seduced her patient’s fiancé!”
“A female gynecologist should have ethics!”
Sonya ignored them and walked to her office.
Except—
She had no patients all morning.
Outside, hospital staff gossiped openly.
“What’s with the banners?”
“They say a female gynecologist seduced her patient’s fiancé.”
“She deserves to be fired. Who is she?”
“That one. Right there.”
Eyes turned toward Sonya’s office.
The whispers felt like knives.
Just then, Ashley burst in, pushing past the crowd.
“Go, go away!”
She slammed the door shut and turned to Sonya.
“If I were you, I’d take a paid vacation.”
Sonya shook her head.
“Why? I didn’t do anything wrong. If I don’t show up, the internet will eat me alive.”
Ashley sighed.
“Those fans are crazy.”
She checked her phone—and suddenly sat up straight.
“Sonya, you’re trending again.”
Sonya’s stomach dropped.
“Am I being attacked again?”
Ashley shook her head.
“No. It’s the photo you posted yesterday. It’s spreading.”
Sonya frowned.
“Didn’t Seraphina’s team suppress it?”
“Yeah, but it’s trending again.”
Sonya checked her phone.
Unlike before, it wasn’t just Seraphina’s fans attacking her.
Now—
There were fair comments and analyses.
“This photo clearly shows Doctor Ella and Mr. Jennings were a couple in college. But Seraphina said she and Mr. Jennings started dating back then. That’s a blatant lie.”
“Doctor Ella said she dated Mr. Jennings for eight years. What role did Seraphina play in their relationship?”
“Seraphina’s fans say the photo’s photoshopped. Prove it. Netizens have sharp eyes.”
Ashley’s eyes gleamed.
She typed rapidly:
“I’m friends with Doctor Ella. The million-dollar check she received was owed to her by Mr. Jennings. Seraphina called it compensation. After the scandal broke, instead of clarifying things, she let her fans attack Sonya to cover up her own mess.”
She posted a photo of the fans outside the hospital.
“Seraphina’s fans are bullying an innocent woman. Seraphina and her team should clear Doctor Ella’s name.”
This time—
Ashley’s comment shot to the top.
Sonya stared at her.
“Did you… use the power of money?”
Ashley shook her head.
“No. Look! Over ten KOLs are posting your photo. Someone’s secretly helping you.”
Sonya frowned.
“Didn’t you say it might be Seraphina’s rivals?”
Ashley hesitated.
“Her rivals aren’t this powerful.”
Face to Face with Seraphina
That afternoon, Sonya did her rounds.
Then, she went to Seraphina’s hospital room.
Inside, Seraphina’s team was frantically working on damage control.
The moment they saw Sonya—
The room fell silent.
Seraphina’s eyes were red-rimmed.
“Sonya, we’re friends, right?”
Sonya tilted her head.
“Are we?”
Seraphina’s lips trembled.
“Why are you doing this to me? Why are you trying to ruin me?”
Sonya laughed.
“What did I do? I just posted one photo.”
Seraphina’s hands clenched into fists.
“Just a photo? You didn’t do anything behind the scenes?”
Sonya smirked.
“First, you’re the one who put the blame on me. Second, one photo is more than enough. Third, I’m just a nobody; I can’t manipulate things.”
Seraphina’s voice turned sharp.
“I need you to tell everyone the photo is fake—or that you were always the third wheel in my relationship with Julian!”
Sonya’s jaw dropped.
Then—
She burst out laughing.
“Are you crazy?”
