Chapter 0075
“Rena?” Ethan asked, raising an eyebrow.
Irene chuckled. “Childhood nickname,” she explained before turning to Walter with a grin. “Wallie, this is my fiancé, Ethan.”
“Ah, the infamous Ethan,” Walter said with a smirk as he shook Ethan’s hand. “It’s a pleasure to finally meet you. I’ve heard nothing but great things from my dear cousin.”
“I actually read some of your work recently,” Ethan replied. “You’re quite well-known in France. You should be proud of yourself.”
Walter gave a modest shrug. “I do my best.”
“Why don’t we head to the parlor?” Irene suggested, looping her arm through Walter’s. “We have food and drinks waiting.”
As they settled onto the couches, enjoying the spread of food, Walter and Ethan delved into a discussion about business, journalism, and Walter’s future plans for his magazine. Irene sat back, watching them with warmth in her eyes. It meant the world to her that the two most important men in her life were getting along so well.
“So, you’re set to become Alpha once your father retires?” Ethan asked, intrigued.
Walter nodded. “Yes. My mother was the daughter of the former Alpha. When he passed, my father took over, making her Luna. That leaves me as the only heir.”
Despite being a journalist and magazine owner, Walter carried the weight of his lineage. The Landry family was well-known in France, owning multiple properties, though they didn’t hold the same level of influence as Gavin Landry, the most powerful Lycan chairman in the world. Still, Walter had built an impressive legacy of his own.
Ethan found himself genuinely interested in Walter’s story. It was easy to see why Irene adored him. They interacted like siblings, teasing and poking fun at each other with ease.
“Speaking of family,” Walter said, glancing around, “where’s my uncle?”
“He’s at the packhouse handling some business,” Irene replied. “He’ll probably be home later. He’s been around more lately, especially since Matthew got a new tutor.”
Walter raised an eyebrow. “Another one? From what you’ve told me, this must be the hundredth tutor he’s had.”
Irene bit her lip before nodding. “Yeah, but I think this one’s different. Matt actually likes her, and she’s lasted a few weeks without any issues.”
“That’s promising,” Walter remarked. “Where is she now?”
“She’s outside with Matt, practicing sparring and defense. Maybe you’ll meet her later—she’s really great.”
“That sounds lovely.” Walter reached for a sandwich from one of the platters, taking a bite. “These are delicious.”
“Turkey and cheese,” Irene said, grabbing one for herself. “My favorite. I figured you’d like them too.”
Walter nodded approvingly.
“So, Ethan,” he continued, lifting his glass in a toast, “Rena tells me you’re set to become the next Alpha of Redmoon. Congratulations are in order.”
Ethan chuckled. “Not quite yet, but I’m working on it.” He pulled Irene closer, and she snuggled into his side.
“Don’t listen to him, Wallie,” Irene interjected playfully. “My father adores him. It’s practically a done deal.”
Ethan smirked. “Your faith in me is incredible, my love.” He kissed the tip of her nose, making her giggle.
Walter sighed dramatically. “You two are disgustingly cute. I hope I’m lucky enough to find love one day.”
As if on cue, the parlor door opened, and Judy walked in, oblivious to the conversation.
She was wearing only a workout bra and tight athletic shorts that accentuated her toned, muscular curves. Her long legs moved with effortless grace, her damp hair pulled into a high ponytail. Sweat glistened on her flushed skin, beads forming at the nape of her neck before sliding down to her exposed shoulders. She looked radiant—absolutely glowing.
Ethan hadn’t realized he was staring until she disappeared into the kitchen.
“Who was that?” Walter asked, his gaze still fixed on the doorway.
“Matt’s tutor,” Irene said with a knowing smile. “Judy Montague.”
Ethan blinked, snapping back to the present, but Walter remained focused on the doorway, his expression unreadable.
Judy soon reappeared, holding a cold water bottle. She ran it along the back of her neck, exhaling softly as the chill relieved her overheated skin.
The sound sent a jolt straight through Ethan.
Walter, too, seemed captivated. His eyes darkened slightly as he watched her.
Judy opened the bottle, tilting her head back to take a long sip. Water dripped down her chin, trailing along the curve of her neck.
She finally glanced their way, her gaze landing on Ethan, then Irene, before settling on Walter. Their eyes met and lingered.
Judy capped her bottle, offering a small, knowing smile before turning and walking out of the room to rejoin Matt outside.
Walter exhaled sharply. “Oh my goddess,” he whispered. “She’s stunning.”
