Chapter 0070
Judy’s POV
“What exactly is going on here?” Gavin asked as he stepped into the room, his eyes scanning the situation and landing on the hand still gripping my wrist, now red from the force. I watched his eyes darken in fury as he noticed the marks on my skin.
“Alpha Landry,” Lucy said, bowing her head in respect. “It’s such an honor to finally meet you. I’m Lucy.”
“I didn’t ask,” Gavin said, raising his hand to silence her. She immediately fell quiet, her cheeks turning pink. His gaze never left Principal Thorne. “Release her hand.”
Principal Thorne immediately let go, and I pulled my hand to my chest, rubbing the aching wrist. Gavin motioned to his Gammas, who quickly stepped in and ushered me gently to his side.
“Alpha Gavin, there’s been a misunderstanding,” Principal Thorne began. “I was only protecting your reputation. This woman is pretending to be your wife and the mother of your child.”
“Yeah, she’s a nobody! We were just standing up for your honor by teaching her a lesson,” Lucy agreed.
Gavin glanced at me, and I could feel the questions and judgment swirling in his mind. All I could do was hold my head down in shame. There was no getting out of this now. I was caught, and I would likely lose my job. Matt would probably get in even more trouble—all because I couldn’t pull off the lie. What was I thinking, saying I was Gavin’s wife?
“Just because I’m late for my son’s meeting doesn’t give you the right to treat my wife like this,” Gavin spat, glaring at the principal. I snapped my head up, shocked by his words. Gavin looked furious as he stared at Principal Thorne and Lucy.
Both their faces went white at his words.
“W…wife?” Principal Thorne stammered. “I don’t understand.”
“What’s there to understand?” Gavin asked. To my utter shock, he wrapped an arm around my shoulders and pulled me into his side. “Judy is my wife, and you treated her poorly.”
“But… but you’re a bachelor!” Lucy gasped. “How is it possible that you have a wife?”
“Those are just rumors,” Gavin snapped. “Judy is my wife and the mother of my child.”
Lucy looked ready to cry, and the principal was sweating, both clearly at a loss for words. It would have been funny if I wasn’t still so stunned.
Was Gavin really helping me out of this?
But why?
When I looked up at him, he was still glaring at them, his arm still protectively around me. He was so handsome, even when angry. His arm around me made it difficult to keep my distance, and I fought the urge to lean into him, to breathe in his scent.
“I am deeply sorry, Mrs. Landry. Please accept my apology. My receptionist is new and didn’t understand the situation,” Principal Thorne said.
Lucy’s mouth dropped, clearly thrown under the bus. She whipped around to face Gavin, eyes narrowing.
“You were the one trying to have your way with her!” she hissed.
I flinched at the mention of what had almost happened.
“We’re here to discuss Matthew, are we not?” Gavin asked, cutting off their argument.
Principal Thorne bowed his head, keeping his gaze on the floor. “Yes, sir. Please, come into my office.” He motioned to the door behind him.
“Lead the way,” Gavin said, keeping his arm around me as he pulled me along with him toward the office door. Then he stopped and looked at Taylor. “Deal with her.”
He motioned to Lucy, who had gone even paler.
“Yes, sir,” Taylor said with a smirk before turning to a frantic Lucy.
“A… Alpha?” Lucy stammered, trying to get Gavin’s attention, but he ignored her completely.
We walked into the office, and Gavin shut the door behind us.
“Please, take a seat,” Principal Thorne said nervously, pointing to the chairs in front of his desk as he sat down.
Gavin entwined his fingers through mine, and I felt my face flush with heat. He ran his thumb over the red marks on my wrist, and his gaze darkened. I wasn’t sure if he was angry at me or Principal Thorne.
