Chapter 24
Adam nodded, taking the tablet from Matt’s hands and handing it to Ethan.
“I’ll return this later. Thank you for your help, Adam,” Ethan said kindly, before turning and leaving the kitchen.
“Thank you for the warning about Miss Judy,” Adam replied. “I’ll keep a close eye on her. I’ll see if there’s someone more capable for the position.”
Ethan nodded, a faint smile tugging at his lips.
Adam thought little of that conversation until a couple of hours later, when he was searching the house for Matt. He couldn’t find him anywhere. Matt wasn’t usually in his bedroom at this time, but that was the one place Adam hadn’t checked. Ethan and Irene were long gone for the day, so the house was quiet and empty, save for the staff running about.
Adam knocked on Matt’s bedroom door and heard a faint huffing sound from within. Frowning, he opened the door and found Matt lying on his bed, the tablet in his hands.
“Master Matthew, how did you get that?” Adam asked, stepping inside.
“Get out! I’m busy!” Matt scowled, eyes fixed on the screen of the tablet.
“Master Matthew, I insist you hand that over right now,” Adam said, his tone firm. “You know you aren’t allowed to have it right now. Your tutor will be here soon, and you need to be prepared.”
“I said get out!!” Matt hissed, his anger flaring. He grabbed a picture frame with sharp corners and hurled it across the room, aiming directly at Adam’s face.
Adam managed to duck just in time, and the frame shattered against the wall behind him. He spun back around, but Matt remained focused on his game, his hands reaching for more objects to throw.
“Matt!” Adam tried again, but Matt ignored him. Instead, he grabbed more pictures and other hard objects, launching them at Adam while shouting for him to leave.
Feeling he had no choice, Adam quickly retreated. When Matt became like this, he was dangerous, and there was little anyone could do to stop him. The only person who could calm him down was Gavin—his Alpha aura had a power over Matt that no one else could replicate.
Unfortunately, Gavin was tied up in a meeting that afternoon and unavailable.
This might just be the perfect opportunity to push Judy out of the job, though. If she couldn’t handle the task, it would prove she wasn’t cut out for it.
Judy arrived shortly after, ready for her first day as Matt’s tutor. Adam, seeing this as an opportunity, tried to warn her.
“He somehow got his tablet and is playing his favorite game,” Adam explained. “He’s locked himself in his room and won’t come out. It’s probably better if you don’t even bother trying.”
Judy raised an eyebrow, unshaken.
“Is that so?” she asked, her tone cool.
Adam went to respond, but Judy did something entirely unexpected. With a determined expression, she walked past him and started up the stairs. Adam quickly followed, protesting.
“You’re not supposed to go upstairs,” he said. “That’s the personal floor, with bedrooms and private bathrooms.”
Judy ignored him and paused at the top of the stairs. She scanned the hallway, her gaze landing on the door covered in stickers. Without a moment’s hesitation, she marched toward it.
“Miss Judy!” Adam protested again, but it was too late.
She knocked on the bedroom door and waited a moment. When Matt ignored her, she did something Adam had never imagined: she kicked the door open!
