He always told me he wanted my gifts to be unexpected and that it wasn’t fun if I knew what I was getting. I eventually stopped asking for the necklace, hoping he would get it for me on his own. But he never did. I assumed he just forgot.
Seeing him get that necklace for another woman made me deflate instantly. I felt physically ill.
“Isn’t it incredible?” Irene gushed, her voice full of admiration. “He’s truly the best.”
Ethan gave a wide smile, pulling her close and kissing the side of her face.
“It’s certainly a sight,” Gavin admitted. “I’m pleased that you have your priorities in order, Ethan.”
“Yes, Sir,” Ethan replied, then he looked at me, a smirk playing on his lips. “My priorities are definitely in order.”
Third Person POV
Ethan let out a breath of relief when he found out that Judy wasn’t there as Gavin’s girlfriend. Still, he was furious that she had managed to get a job even after he had blacklisted her from the workforce. Seeing her standing beside Gavin ignited a flame of anger in him.
But he had to play it cool. Irene was right next to him, and she had already noticed his earlier reaction to seeing Judy. She gave Ethan a strange look, but he responded with a broad, reassuring smile.
Irene was truly a work of art—beautiful and perfect in every way. It was a shame he was only using her to boost his status and secure his position as the new Alpha of the Redmoon pack.
“We still have a lot of planning to do to make this wedding perfect,” Irene said, resting her head on Ethan’s arm. “I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with this man.”
“You certainly make a nice couple,” Gavin commented, his eyes still fixed on Ethan. “I trust that you treat your daughter well.”
“Of course,” Ethan replied smoothly, though he could feel Judy’s eyes boring into him. He kept his plastered smile, unwilling to show any vulnerability.
He knew he was hurting her, and he knew that the necklace he had bought Irene would hit her hard. She had been asking for it ever since she saw it in the window of that jewelry store last year, but he never bought it for her. He didn’t want to give in to her desires, preferring to remain in control.
Now, with Judy working for the Landry family, Ethan felt as though he was losing that control. The tutoring job was something he couldn’t interfere with. While he had successfully gotten her blacklisted from the workforce, Gavin Landry didn’t play by the same rules. He probably paid her well for this job, too. According to Irene, her brother Matt wasn’t easy to deal with, especially for a tutor, but Gavin seemed optimistic that Judy would be good at it—and Matt had already taken a liking to her.
Judy was fidgeting in her seat beside Gavin, and the sight brought Ethan a small satisfaction. She was uncomfortable, and in some twisted way, it made him feel as though he still had control over her. Whenever their eyes met, she couldn’t seem to look away. The pain and turmoil in her gaze brought a sick joy to Ethan.
She might think she had gotten the perfect job, but Ethan wasn’t done. He made a vow to himself that he would ensure Judy left this job as Matt’s tutor. He was also going to make sure she dropped out of Royal Academy.
Someone like Judy wasn’t meant to succeed. She was only good for one thing—spreading her legs.
Ethan knew a few people who could help him put his plans into motion. He would make sure Judy not only lost her job but that she also quit school.
As far as he was concerned, Judy had two choices: she could either be his mistress, or she could lose everything.
