Chapter 13
He handed me back the resume without saying a word, his eyes briefly scanning me before he shifted his attention to his son. The atmosphere grew tense, almost awkward. Matt was glancing between me and his father, and I could see the questions in his eyes.
“And what do you want, Matt?” Gavin asked the boy.
Matt hesitated for a moment, his eyes meeting mine. There was a part of me that feared Matt would tell me to leave, that he didn’t want to see me again. I wasn’t sure if I’d made an impression on him, or if I was just another tutor in a long line. I braced myself for rejection. But then, to my surprise, a smile lit up Matt’s face as he looked at his father.
“I want Judy,” he said, shocking me.
Both Gavin and Adam were equally stunned; Adam’s surprise quickly turned to a subtle relief. Gavin raised his brows, looking at his son.
“You’re sure?” he asked.
Matt nodded confidently.
“I thought she was just another pretty face,” he said. “But she’s proved herself. She’s really good at what she does. I want her to tutor me and train me to be the best,” he added, glancing at me before turning back to his father.
I felt a swell of pride in my chest, and I had to stifle a smile. Gavin’s eyes softened slightly as he addressed Matt.
He then turned to look at me. “My son doesn’t usually take kindly to tutors. The fact that he likes you speaks volumes.”
My cheeks warmed. Was that a compliment?
I cleared my throat, trying to recover myself.
“You are the man of the house, and ultimately, it is your decision. If you’d like, I can still leave. I didn’t mean to intrude on your home,” I said, holding my head high.
“Dad?” Matt tugged at his father’s shirt, looking concerned that his father might send me away.
Gavin smiled gently at his son. “Go with Adam inside. I’m going to speak with Judy for a moment,” he said softly.
Matt glanced at me and then back at his father briefly before nodding. He followed Adam into the villa without another word, leaving me alone with Gavin.
I wrapped my arms around myself, almost as if shielding myself from whatever verbal blows might be coming.
“I will leave,” I said before he could kick me out. “I honestly had no idea that you were his father.”
For a moment, Gavin looked almost uneasy.
“I’m not going to make you leave,” he surprised me by saying. “My son likes you, and that’s a rarity. I won’t ruin that for him. I’ll allow you to be his tutor.”
“Oh, well, thank you,” I said, extending my hand to shake his.
He glanced at my hand briefly, arms still crossed over his chest. He met my eyes, his gaze intense. Silence stretched between us, and I began to feel increasingly uncomfortable and nervous under his scrutiny. Slowly, I lowered my hand.
“There are some conditions,” he finally spoke after what felt like an eternity.
I raised an eyebrow, already sensing this wouldn’t be as easy as it seemed.
“What are these conditions?” I asked.
“For starters, you can’t wear clothes like that again,” he said, glancing at my outfit before meeting my eyes again.
I was taken aback. My gaze fell on my crop top and shorts, and I frowned. I recalled earlier when his eyes had darkened as he stared at me. He’d glanced down at my exposed belly for a moment before his gaze had lingered on my legs. I blushed at the thought of him checking me out, but a smirk spread across my lips as I stepped closer to him. I couldn’t resist having a little fun with him now that we were on the subject.
I tilted my head slightly, locking eyes with him. Then, I lowered my voice to a sultry whisper.
“Why is that, Alpha? Are you afraid you won’t be able to resist?”
