- Chapter 19
- Sebastian Sinclair froze as if struck by lightning, the words exploding in his ears.
- His mind went blank. Mechanically, he repeated the term, “Fiancé?”
- Eleanor Knight gave a slight nod under his stunned gaze before turning toward the crowd. “Lucas.”
- The man who had been so aggressive moments ago instantly transformed, peeking out like a docile lamb with innocent, blinking eyes. “Babe, you’re done already?”
- Eleanor caught the guilt in his tone. She had plenty of questions, but now wasn’t the time.
- Suppressing her doubts, she beckoned him over. Lucas Chase immediately jogged to her side, effortlessly helping her down from the flowerbed.
- Their seamless interaction shattered Sebastian’s composure. His fists clenched as he stared at their intertwined fingers, his voice rising sharply. “He’s your fiancé?”
- Eleanor turned their joined hands slightly, letting the matching rings glint in the sunlight. “Problem?”
- Her indifference enraged him. “We haven’t even been divorced for a week!”
- “Thirty-five days, to be exact,” she corrected calmly. “Including the cooling-off period.”
- Sebastian choked on his words. He had scoured their prenup agreement, consulted over a dozen lawyers, yet found no loopholes. When he tried negotiating its revocation, the response had been cold: Take it to court if you disagree.
- He knew it was Eleanor’s doing. That was why he’d swallowed his pride and chased her abroad, believing nostalgia might sway her.
- But reality had slapped him hard.
- His gaze locked onto Lucas, suddenly recalling that engagement video on social media. Back then, he’d been too busy flirting with Isabella Whitlock to notice the figure who resembled Eleanor.
- The signs had been there all along.
- A sharp pain pierced his chest, crushing his last shred of hope. Meeting Eleanor’s icy stare, he asked bitterly, “Are you with him… to get back at me?”
- Lucas’s eyes flickered at the question, and he turned to study the woman beside him.
Under their dual scrutiny, Eleanor remained unshaken. She had known the answer long before this moment.
