Chapter 23
Lenore’s annoyance spiked just from seeing these people.
Her voice turned frosty.
“Got anything else?”
The guy in the car shivered, as if a chill had crept down his spine.
He shrank back slightly.
“There’s a big meeting at the end of the month in Senanville. My dad wants to know if you’re going.”
Lenore’s eyes narrowed.
Irritation flashed across her face.
“Not interested. Get lost.”
No further discussion.
The guy immediately drove off, not daring to linger.
An Unexpected Encounter
The sharp autumn chill hinted at the coming winter.
Lenore fiddled with the smart band on her left wrist, trying to shake off the lingering frustration.
Then—
A smooth, confident voice cut through the air.
“Ms. Smedley.”
A Porsche Cayenne rolled up.
Lenore looked up.
A striking man sat in the back seat, exuding an aura of casual dominance.
Instantly, she put on her easygoing, carefree facade, mischief dancing in her eyes.
“What’s up?”
She wore her black backpack haphazardly over one shoulder, her school uniform slightly unbuttoned, giving her a rebellious, effortless charm.
With her hands in her pockets and her long hair tousled by the wind, she looked both ethereal and untouchable.
Wayne, who was supposed to return to Denisville, tilted his head, smirking.
“You belong in a school or a palace, not a car repair shop.”
Lenore’s gaze lingered on the rear window for a second, her expression unreadable.
A touch of defiance and distance flickered in her eyes.
Then—
A deeper, richer voice joined the conversation.
“Where to? Need a ride?”
Silas.
He had one arm resting on the window frame, his sleeves rolled up, exuding quiet confidence.
A black ring glinted on his pinky as the light hit it.
A faint sandalwood scent drifted from the car, fresh and grounding.
Lenore ran her tongue over her teeth, her eyes momentarily flicking to the ring before she casually slid into the car.
Her smart band remained hidden under her oversized sleeve.
She pulled out her phone, immediately launching a game with the volume turned up.
Wayne glanced over, instantly intrigued.
“Hey, add me. We can play together. I’ll give you some guidance.”
Lenore flicked her eyes to him, then added him.
Her game ID: AllAlone.
Her rank? 25 stars.
Wayne’s smirk froze.
Then—
His gaze drifted to his own embarrassingly low rank.
A pang of regret hit him.
Wow… should’ve kept my mouth shut.
He looked up, meeting Lenore’s mildly amused gaze.
Wayne forced a grin, quickly shaking off the embarrassment.
With zero shame, he said—
“Please guide me.”
Lenore shrugged, unbothered.
“I’ll switch to my smurf account.”
Wayne nodded, relieved.
Then—
Five seconds later, his eyes widened in shock.
Her so-called smurf account was Diamond rank.
His expression fell.
Wow… That’s not very damaging, but definitely a blow to my pride.
An Unusual Moment
As they loaded into a game, Silas, who had been watching in silence, suddenly spoke.
His voice was casual but sharp.
“Want to exchange contact info?”
Before Lenore could respond—
SCREEECH!
The car swerved violently, almost veering off the road.
Wayne’s head slammed against the window.
Chuck, the driver, quickly corrected the wheel, letting out an awkward chuckle.
“Oops… my hand slipped.”
Silas shot him a glare through the rearview mirror—cold, sharp.
Then, he glanced back at Wayne and Lenore.
His expression remained unchanged.
“Next time, I’ll have you fix my car.”
The car swerved again.
Wayne let out a pained grunt, rubbing the side of his head.
Silas narrowed his eyes.
His voice was calm—too calm.
“If you can’t drive, let someone else do it.”
Chuck didn’t dare respond.
He was too busy internally panicking.
Since when does a guy like Mr. Faulkner casually ask for someone’s contact info?
Can he really blame me for being surprised?!
Wayne glanced at Silas, barely holding back his laughter.
Inside, he was screaming with amusement.
The feared heir to the Faulkner family, one of the most powerful men in Denisville…
Fixated on a seventeen-year-old girl.
He even brought her into his home—and yet he still doesn’t have her number?!
Oh, if this got out…
This would be trending for at least two weeks!
