Chapter 2: The Boss

Peacefield was a small town, a bit behind the times. It wasn’t the kind of place where you’d find many wealthy people, but it did have a car repair shop.

Thirty minutes had passed. Wayne Garcia was growing restless, watching the mechanics struggle with the car. He ran a hand through his hair, frustration clear. “Can any of you fix this or not?”

He thought to himself, This place has such rough roads that even the toughest cars break down. There’s no dealership around to buy a new one, and waiting for a ride takes forever. Calling a helicopter would be over the top. The only option is to tow it here. I just can’t figure out why my grandpa chose to live in this backward town.

Kevin Leach, one of the staff, couldn’t help but think, This guy has a handsome face, and that purple suit is definitely eye-catching. Inside the car, someone is still sitting there. He’s got a charm that could rival our boss.

Just by their outfits, attitude, and the million-dollar car, it was obvious that these two were no ordinary folks. Kevin apologized, saying, “Sorry. Our boss will be here shortly.”

Boss? Wayne raised an eyebrow. Does a small-town repair shop really need a boss? He tapped his finger against the backseat window.

The window rolled down, revealing a profile that could stop anyone in their tracks. Silas Faulkner had an air of class as he asked, “What’s the issue?”

Wayne lit a cigarette, a smirk forming on his lips. “It’s not that far. How about we just walk? If we keep waiting, it’ll be dark soon.”

Silas turned his head, his high nose bridge and deep eyes captivating. His thin lips were pressed in cold defiance, and his handsome features had a hint of aloofness. His voice was calm, with a lazy drawl. “What’s the rush?”

Wayne was helpless. He thought, It’s just a ten-minute walk. This guy just doesn’t want to walk. What a pampered guy!

“You’re the boss. Your call,” Wayne said, conceding. He opened the car door and got back in.

“Boss!” A shout came from outside as all the repair shop guys rushed to greet their boss.

Wayne instinctively looked outside, his eyes widening. “Whoa…” he muttered.

Silas slightly furrowed his brow, about to roll up the window, but his eyes sharpened as he caught sight of someone walking up in the rearview mirror.

Walking toward them was Lenore, a tall girl dressed in black casual clothes, her long hair flowing over her shoulders. She exuded a laid-back vibe, an attitude that seemed to disregard everything. Even in her cheap flip-flops, she had an undeniable aura of confidence.

Her features were strikingly beautiful, her skin glowing under the sun like a glimpse of spring hidden in the heart of autumn.

“What car?” Lenore asked, her voice lazy yet clear as a bell.

Kevin pointed at the Bentley parked out front. “This car’s worth over a million. We checked it out, but we didn’t dare mess with it. If we broke it, we couldn’t afford to fix it.”

Luxury cars aren’t common in this area, Lenore thought, squinting when she noticed the license plate. Redirecting her gaze, she pulled a hand from her pocket and held it out to Kevin. “Wrench.”

Kevin quickly handed her one.

Silas, with his aristocratic features and cold charm, watched as Lenore walked over to the car. When their eyes met, she raised an eyebrow, tossing the wrench playfully and flashing a mischievous grin.

Wayne was still captivated by Lenore’s beauty, his mind momentarily in a daze. “Are you their boss?” he asked.

Lenore glanced at him with a frosty look. “Who else did you think?” Her tone was cocky and full of confidence.

Wayne was lost for words. Since when did mechanics look this good? What a waste, he thought.

Lenore clicked her tongue, tapping the car’s body lightly with the wrench. “Get out,” she said.

Wayne, who had just gotten in the car, silently stepped out. Silas raised an eyebrow, closed the laptop on his lap, and followed him out.

Silas was tall and stylish, wearing a black silk shirt that radiated cool restraint. As Lenore passed by him, a faint scent of sandalwood drifted from him, fresh and pleasant.

Lenore didn’t look at him, though. Rolling up her sleeves, revealing her slender arms, she opened the car hood and began working with the wrench. The sound of tapping and parts being taken apart filled the air as she worked with a casual intensity.

Wayne couldn’t help but twitch his lips. “Are you sure you know how to fix cars? I just bought this one yesterday for a few million!”

Lenore looked up at him, a cheeky grin on her delicate features. “Even if it’s worth billions, it’s still just a pile of junk when it’s broken, right?”

Wayne didn’t know what to say. She’s right, and I can’t argue with that. But judging by the way she behaved, and the fact that she looked so young, she didn’t seem like someone who fixed cars for a living.

He glanced at Silas, who was standing next to him. “I have a feeling this car is going to be ruined.”

Lenore bent one leg, placing her foot on the car while her other slender leg supported her on the ground. As she moved, a black smart band of unknown material on her left wrist spun around.

When she leaned over the car, her shirt lifted slightly, revealing a smooth, delicate waist that seemed fragile as if it could break with a touch.

Silas’s throat tightened, his eyes deepening. His lips curved into a relaxed smile as he chuckled softly and muttered, “Pretty wild.”

Wayne was confused, unsure of what Silas meant.
