Chapter 586
Late at night, in the long alley behind the bar.
After taking down a few thugs, Diana was eventually overpowered and knocked to the ground by a small, stocky middle- aged man.
The short and slender man dismissed his subordinates and slowly approached Diana. Like a predator savoring its prey, he watched as blood steadily dripped from the corner of her mouth.
Seeing her struggle to push herself up with her hands, he laughed cruelly. “Ms. Grant, don’t waste your strength. There’s no way you’re leaving here alive tonight.”
Diana was almost certain these people were working with Quinlee. When she saw him take the short dagger handed to him by one of his men, she knew she had no strength left to resist.
Aaron always said that her reckless and prideful nature would get her into serious trouble someday.
In all the years she’d known Aaron, he’d never stopped nagging her. Because of her stubbornness and mischief, they had been apart for five whole years.
She thought, ‘This time, I didn’t listen to him again. If I die, I deserve it.‘
Just as she closed her eyes, there was an explosive noise.
When Diana opened her eyes again, the short, middle–aged man who had been holding the dagger was now on the ground, writhing in pain.
She saw Aaron forcing the other attackers to retreat swiftly. As they fled, Diana tried to call out to him.
Aaron turned his head and saw Diana lying motionless on the ground. She opened her mouth to call out to him, but the blood gushing from her throat swallowed every word.
“You’re going to be okay. I’m taking you to the hospital,” he said, his voice shaky. He picked her up and sprinted towards the alley entrance as fast as he could.

Late at night, the hallway outside the emergency room at Bondie Private Hospital was packed with dozens of people.
“Don’t worry, Aaron. Mark is in there. Diana will be fine,” Ellie said, her heart pounding as she noticed the large bloodstains on Aaron’s jacket.
“With Diana’s skills, who could have hurt her this badly?” Lacey asked, dressed in thin loungewear, her hair disheveled and wearing slippers.
“Aaron?” Declan sat on a bench with other Grant family elders, including Patrick and Winnie.
Aaron approached and explained the phone call he had with Diana that night to everyone.
Aaron felt like he was suspended in midair, without a sense of security. Even while speaking to Declan, his eyes were fixed on the light above the surgery room door. “When I called her, she’d already reached the place where the incident happened
“I don’t know the exact situation, but I can confirm one thing. She was following Quinlee Janssen.”

Steven was the first to speak up, “Winnie, if Quinlee really did this to my sister, don’t blame me. I won’t let that woman get away with it.”
Standing beside her husband, Winnie’s expression was serious. “Even if she’s my sister, I won’t cover for her if she did something this terrible. You can count on that.”
Liam added, “But Diana’s skills… even a seasoned fighter would struggle against her. Whoever did this to her must be unusual.”
Tim said, “Aaron, you fought those people. Tell us exactly what happened.”
Aaron shook his head. “It was in a deep alley with poor lighting. They were all masked and hooded; even their hands were gloved.”
Joey suggested, “Patrick, we should find Quinlee first.”
Patrick turned to the butler. “Coordinate our people around where Diana was attacked. We need to find Quinlee.”

Are you looking for me?” No sooner had Patrick spoken than Quinlee approached in high heels.
“What’s going on? What are you all doing here in the middle of the night?” Quinlee looked innocently at everyone and pointed to the emergency room door. “Is someone sick?”
“You dare show up?” Steven pointed angrily at Quinlee, only to be stopped by Tim.
“Why I’m here, Dr. Thompson knows best.” Quinlee turned her gaze to Ellie. “Right, Dr. Thompson?”
She thought, “Thankfully, I returned just in time. If I had stayed any longer at that bar and the Grant family found me, no amount of excuses would have cleared my name.
It’s a pity though. If Aaron hadn’t arrived so quickly, Diana would have died in that stinking alley at the hands of those thugs.
Ellie stood still, showing no emotion as she looked at the suddenly appeared Quinlee. The two exchanged a long look; Quinlee’s eyes were filled with undisguised glee and provocation.
With Diana’s fate uncertain, Quinlee wouldn’t admit anything based on just one person’s word.
Now Quinlee wanted to accomplish two things with one move–she wanted Ellie to state that Quinlee was at the hospital this whole time, taking care of Orion from the Warren family.
This way, not only would it indirectly prove her innocence regarding Diana’s incident, but it would also let everyone know that Orion was in the hospital too.
“Ms. Janssen must be joking. How would I know why you’re here in the middle of the night? I’m not a mind reader,” Ellie said as she walked up to Quinlee, looking just as innocent.
Seeing that Ellie didn’t take the bait and others started doubting her again, Quinlee cursed inwardly.
“Dr. Thompson, you’re my boyfriend’s attending physician. How could you slander me like this?” Quinlee deliberately spoke loudly so everyone could hear.
Winnie, standing a short distance away, observed Quinlee for a moment before approaching. “Your boyfriend?”
“Yes, Winnie, my boyfriend is injured and hospitalized. Today is Thanksgiving. I went out to buy some things to celebrate with him.
“When I passed by here and heard you talking about me, I came over. Winnie, what exactly happened?” Quinlee said nonchalantly and without a trace of guilt.
She thought, ‘I already sent the data out. Now I just need to make sure Alex’s parents and everyone else know that I saved Orion and have been diligently taking care of him in the hospital.
“That way, I can revive my engagement with him and become the Warren family’s member. Once I establish myself at Jaslands, Ellie and Alex will pay the price.’
Winnie was skeptical. “Take me to see him.”
Quinlee’s lips curled into a triumphant smile as she pointed at Ellie. “Winnie, that depends on whether Dr. Thompson agrees.”
Liam, eager to prove whether Quinlee was lying, pointed at her insistently. “You take my Winnie to see your boyfriend. What does that have to do with Dr. Thompson?”

The ride was silent. Ellie didn’t ask why Alex spoke up for Quinlee, and he didn’t explain.
Ellie made a quick trip to get the clothes and brought them to Diana’s room, only to receive a message from Linda saying that Quinlee had slipped out of the hospital.
“No need to chase her,” Alex said, stopping Ellie beside her car in the hospital parking lot.
Ellie pushed him away. “Do you even know where I’m going?”
Alex opened the car door and handed her breakfast.
‘So, when he said he was leaving, it was to get breakfast, she thought. Reluctantly, she accepted the breakfast and said, “Thanks.”
“It’s for you and Aaron,” Alex added.
Ellie was speechless. She thought, “There are several people in Diana’s room, and he only bought breakfast for two?”
Nearby, Barry turned away discreetly. He had reminded Alex to buy more, but Alex had scolded him for not being frugal enough and said money should be spent wisely.
Seeing Ellie hesitate with the breakfast bag, Alex took out half of it. “Sit in my car and eat; I’ll bring this portion to Aaron Ellie grabbed Alex by the arm. “Patrick already had the Grant Manor servants prepare breakfast.”

As he watched Ellie walk away with her cup of milk, Alex lost his appetite. He had made his intentions quite obvious, yet she still chose to ignore him.
“A stubborn widow,” Alex muttered under his breath before rolling down the window and calling out to Barry. “Get in here and eat.”
Barry obediently got into the car.
“Mr. Warren, Quinlee has gone to the border area between Jaslands and Harwood. The Grant family has already been informed and is on their way there, along with the police,” Barry said.
Barry was stuffing his mouth with breakfast while checking his phone.
Alex instructed, “Stay at the hospital and ensure Orion’s safety during this period. You don’t need to follow me.”
A few minutes later, Alex found Ellie in a consultation room and pulled her along.
“I’m still on duty! Where are you taking me?” Ellie protested, still dressed in her white coat as Alex dragged her into the elevator.
Alex said, “Duty can wait. Everyone’s off to watch the show. I’ll take you to join the excitement and shake off that cold demeanor of yours.”

A few hours later, in an abandoned factory basement at the border between Jaslands and Harwood.
Quinlee knelt on the concrete ground, her eyes wide with terror, bulging as she stared at the tall, slender man standing not far away, his back turned to her.
“I really didn’t know the contents of the USB drive were fake. Give me another chance, and I’ll get it back!” Quinlee pleaded through tears, continuously kowtowing on the ground to save her life.
A short, masked middle–aged man kicked her in the chest. “You couldn’t even handle a blind man. What use are you to me? That data has already been successfully received by the military, you fool!”
Blood trickled from Quinlee’s mouth as her brain struggled to function. Desperation drove her to her feet, solely focused on escaping alive.
“It must be Ellie!” Quinlee accused, seeking revenge against Ellie and hoping to use her as a scapegoat.
She continued, “Orion is blind and couldn’t operate the computer accurately. Ellie must have helped him.
“I can trick Ellie into coming here and having her replicate the data for you. With that formula, you could start mass production and make an immense profit.”
“Boss, the police are closing in,” a rough–looking man reported hurriedly as he entered.
Quinlee’s mind went blank. She thought, ‘How did the police know? I didn’t alert anybody.
Finally, the mysterious man who had his back to Quinlee spoke, “Don’t worry about the formula anymore.”
“The baby hasn’t eaten for three days. Let it in,” he ordered sharply, turning to command everyone to leave.

Before long, the basement was filled with nothing but the sounds of a vicious dog tearing into flesh and Quinlee’s horrific
Quinler was being mauled beyond recognition, her body riddled with bloody wounds. The dog clamped its jaws around her thigh, rausing excruciating pain that nearly made her pass out.
Driven by a desperate will to survive, she thrashed and rolled, managing to crawl to the corner of the room. She grabbed a half–broken brick and smashed it down on the dog’s head.
A few minutes later, Quinlee staggered out of the basement, covered in blood. She stumbled and ran, screaming for help, but the area around the abandoned factory was deserted.
Upon escaping the factory, Quinlee spotted several cars parked by the roadside. Hope surged within her. “Help! Help me!”
She pounded on the car doors, but no one came to her aid.
Behind her, the vicious dog growled and charged again, knocking her to the ground on the desolate concrete road.
Ellie sat in the passenger seat of Alex’s car, slowly rolling down the window.
On the quiet suburban road, Quinlee’s heart–wrenching screams echoed loudly. Watching Quinlee being attacked, dragged, and bitten by the dog, Ellie remained eerily calm.
Chapter 590
“Help me, Winnie!” Quinlee, bloodied and torn by the hounds, dragged herself to the front of a car, desperately pounding
on the door.
The window was rolled down, and Winnie sat in the backseat of the luxury car, staring straight ahead, refusing to look at Quinlee.
Winnie said, “Even though you share the Janssen bloodline, you’re not the girl I grew up with. We know the truth about your past. I hope that you’ll feel sad for what you did.”
Her eyes welled up, but she resolutely stayed in the car, unwilling to get out and save Quinlee.
Patrick rolled up the window, pulling Winnie into his arms to shield her from everything outside. “I’ll take you back to Jinerity in a few days.”
Although Quinlee’s true identity as Haley had been exposed by Orion, Patrick couldn’t deny that she was still a member of the Janssen family, and more importantly, she was his wife’s biological sister.
“Let’s go, honey,” Winnie whispered, closing her eyes. Although Quinlee had done terrible things, she couldn’t just ignore the fact that they were blood sisters. Winnie couldn’t bring herself to save her, but she couldn’t be completely indifferent either.
“Help me!” Quinlee watched the luxury car slowly pull away, having terror in her eyes. She scrambled towards another car, shouting, “Alex, save me!”
Quinlee pointed her mangled finger toward Alex, who didn’t even glance outside. Instead, he handed a handkerchief to Ellie and said, “The smell of blood is too strong. Cover your nose with it.”
“No need, thanks,” Ellie pushed Alex’s hand away, turning her gaze outside the window.
“Don’t look if you’re scared. You can just hide in my arms.” Alex leaned closer, ready to embrace her.
Ellie glanced back at him, shaking her head. “I’m not scared.”
Alex raised an eyebrow, thinking, ‘You’re really a tough cookie. How could you not flinch even with all this blood?‘
“Well, I am,” Alex suddenly said, resting his head on Ellie’s shoulder. Ellie pushed at him a few times but didn’t try too hard to move him.
“Alex!” Quinlee’s voice was filled with despair as she watched Alex cling to Ellie. She screamed his name, her voice cracking with frustration.
Quinlee thought that since Winnie said that everyone knew who she really was, she had nothing left to hide. She felt glad that she had exposed Ellie to those people. If she was going down to hell, she was taking Ellie with her.
Quinlee’s eyes burned with hatred, and through gritted teeth, she yelled at Alex, “I ended up like this because of you! I’m not Quinlee! I’m Haley!”
“Finally admitting it, huh?” Ellie spoke up, her tone as cold as usual.
“Ah!” Quinlee was bitten on the face by a hound and screamed as she rolled on the ground. She frantically dug her fingers into the dog’s eyes, and blood splattered. The hound yelped in pain and released its bite.
Haley dragged half of her body as she crawled toward Ellie. “This is all because of you, bitch! If you hadn’t competed wi me for Alex back then, I wouldn’t have ended up like this!
“Alex, you’re the reason I am what I am. I just oved you too much!”
