Looking down, Alex saw the small scalpel piercing his chest, his deep eyes reflecting a frightening red glow.
Blood oozed from the wound, soaking through his shirt.
In her panic, Ellie pulled out the scalpel and held it tightly.
She looked up to meet Alex’s frightening gaze, taking deep breaths to calm herself. “If you dare act crazy again, I, I—”
“Um.”
Alex didn’t give Ellie a chance to threaten him.
He wrapped an arm around Ellie’s waist and, ignoring the sharp scalpel in her hand, kissed her passionately.
One arm locked around her waist while the other cradled her neck, pulling her body tightly against him.
His kiss was aggressive, demanding, and passionate, filling the broken adult store with his unrestrained masculinity.
He was desperate to prove something to Ellie while also wanting to possess her completely, forgetting all his previous restraint and promises.
Ellie simply couldn’t handle his wild onslaught.
She had no choice but to tilt her head back, breathless under the weight of his aggressive kisses.
Even with the small scalpel repeatedly pierced his flesh, he seemed oblivious to the pain; the more she hurt him, the deeper his kisses became.

Even the raging storm outside seemed to quiet down.
He cautiously released Ellie.
Wounded in several places, his white shirt was drenched in blood, but he didn’t care at all.
His chest heaved rapidly, and he locked onto Ellie’s dazed face. The tears on her cheeks felt like invisible ropes, constricting his heart tightly.
Ignoring the pain from his wounds, in a raspy voice, he asked her, “Is it really so hard to agree?”
Ellie stood her ground, forcefully pushing Alex away. She lifted her hand and vigorously wiped her lips as if trying to erase
his kiss.
Then she looked up to meet Alex’s dangerous gaze and said, “You’ve hurt me over and over for the sake of Haley, even causing my father’s death.”
Ellie continued, “If it were you, would you agree?”
“The woman I love isn’t her!”
Alex, concealing his frustration, eagerly tried to explain himself o Ellie.
Faced with Ellie’s cold eyes, Alex swallowed all the words he desperately wanted to say.

With reddened eyes, he lowered his voice, “I am partly responsible for Mr. Thompson’s death, but it wasn’t my intention.”
They stood just a step apart, looking into each other’s eyes.
Ellie’s lips curled into a mocking smile, “Whether you meant it or not, my father’s death is ultimately your fault.”
Alex said, “I admit I have some responsibility for Mr. Thompson’s death, but even so, the one I love is not Haley.”
Ellie replied, “I know better than you whether you love Haley or not.”
Alex retorted, “You’re not me, how could you know what I’m thinking?”
Ellie shot back, “I don’t need to know what you think because your actions have already spoken for you.”

Alex’s throat tightened with emotion, and he stepped back, his eyes glazing over as he gazed at Ellie. “Even if I’ve been good to her, that doesn’t mean it’s love.”
Ellie demanded, “If you didn’t love her, why did you push me into the river for her?”
“I said it wasn’t intentional. I don’t love her.”
Alex shouted in frustration.
He stepped closer and gripped Ellie’s shoulders, lowering his voice suddenly. “Ellie, could you trust me just this once?”
Ellie cut him off sharply. “You did it on purpose.”
Ellie said, “You knew I couldn’t swim, yet you did it anyway.”
Her voice rose as she continued, “Not only did you do that, but you also watched me struggle helplessly in the water while you
walked away with the woman you love.”
