- Chapter 232
- Late that night, nearing eleven o’clock, the lights in the living room of Warren Manor were still on.
- The TV was playing, but there was no sound. Alex, dressed in pajamas, lay stiffly on the couch with a scowl, staring at the clock on the wall.
- Hearing a noise outside, he immediately sprang up from the couch in reflex.
- When he saw Ellie stumble through the door, clearly drunk, his facial muscles twitched in frustration.
- He turned off the TV and walked toward her. Leaning in, he sniffed the air. “You’ve been drinking?”
- Ellie, still focused on changing into slippers, absentmindedly nodded, and then tried to push past Alex, heading upstairs.
- Seeing her go up, Alex turned off the lights downstairs and followed her up the stairs.
- At the top of the stairs, seeing Ellie turn left toward her room, Alex snapped. “Ellie, have you lost your mind? Didn’t you see me waiting for you?”
- Ellie, holding onto the railing, turned her head to look at him. “What’s wrong?”
- Alex grabbed her wrist and pulled her away from the railing, gritting his teeth. “Change my bandages.”
- Ellie blinked as if realizing something.
- Shaking off Alex’s hand, she pointed at his forehead with a serious expression. “I’m a doctor. Trust me; skipping a few days won’t kill you.”
- With that, Ellie turned and walked toward her room.
- Behind her, Alex stood, his face turning an even darker shade of fury.
- But as he saw how drunk Ellie was, he quietly followed her to her room.
- Alex blocked her from entering and cautiously asked, “When you told me you gave Haley a necklace, was that true?”
- Ellie, still tipsy, gripped the doorknob, nodding honestly. “Yes.”
- Upon seeing her answer without hesitation, Alex’s heart nearly skipped a beat.
- His hands shook slightly as he gripped both of her shoulders, his eyes bloodshot as he locked onto her face.
- Seizing the moment while Ellie was drunk, he asked again, more urgently. “Ellie, are you sure?”
- Ellie paused for a moment before shaking her head. “She didn’t want it.”
- Alex’s eyes narrowed dangerously. “Where is the necklace now?”
- Ellie mumbled vaguely, “I lost it,” as she opened the door to her room.
- Just as Alex moved to follow her inside. Bam! The door slammed shut in his face.
- The next morning, before heading to work, Ellie went to check on Alex’s bandages, only to be told by the butler that Alex had left Warren Manor the previous night.
- For the next two or three days, Alex didn’t return to Warren Manor.
- Ellie, on the other hand, felt a sense of relief.
- Ethan had been sentenced to life in prison, and now Haley was fighting with Alex over a breakup. Alex would have to be handled with care.
- At around seven o’clock that evening, in Alex’s private suite at the Earl Hotel, Barry, the head of the Warren family’s security team, handed a file folder to Alex. “Mr. Warren, all the information has been verified, and no discrepancies were found.”
- “Expand the search. Keep looking,” Alex said, grabbing his coat and leaving the room.
- About twenty minutes later, at the Owens residence, Haley received a call from Alex and rushed out the front door, excitement evident on her face.
- Before she could steady her footing, Alex quickly called out, “Is the necklace I gave you on you?”
- Haley froze for a moment, confused by his sudden question.
- Not understanding Alex’s intent, Haley hurriedly explained, “That necklace is too precious to me. I didn’t dare wear it.”
- Alex’s voice was stern. “Go get it and bring it to me.”
