Chapter 41:
As Evan and Zach left the hotel, a man in a dark blue shirt with a menacing expression approached, followed by several others. Evan didn’t notice, but Zach did and stepped in front, blocking him. “Mr. Shaw!”
“Where’s my wife?” Julian’s voice was tense and aggressive, like a cornered animal.
“She’s vanished,” Evan said calmly, his gaze cold and detached, exuding authority.
“What do you mean, she’s vanished?” Julian’s hands clenched, his knuckles cracking.
Zach quickly explained that Olivia was Evan’s secretary and had gone to the factory, but hadn’t returned. Her phone was unreachable.
Julian’s blood pressure shot up. He could barely breathe when he realized Olivia was Evan’s secretary. Evan’s car was already at the curb. Ignoring Julian, he got in and drove off, Julian hot on his heels.
Zach glanced back, concerned. “How did Julian find out? Gary was supposed to handle everything.”
“If someone wants to find someone, they will,” Evan said nonchalantly. He was more focused on Olivia’s disappearance. “What exactly did she discover yesterday?”
Zach relayed Olivia’s findings, and Evan’s expression darkened. “Why didn’t you mention this earlier? If something was fishy, she must have gone to investigate. Do you think they’d let her leave so easily?”
Evan rubbed his forehead in frustration. “Tell everyone: if we don’t hear from Ms. Frost within the hour, the entire management of the branch office and factory will be dismissed.”
Zach’s heart pounded. “What’s the reason?”
“No reason. They dared to touch someone under my nose — that shows they don’t respect me.”
