Chapter 187
Evan said softly, “If I go over there, she’ll get
scared again.”
“…Scared of what?”
“You wouldn’t understand.”
Cody indicated that he truly didn’t understand. One person was driving around in the streets late at night, and the other was following without being discovered… Were they playing hide–and–seek?
Evan stared at the distant car for a long moment before checking his phone. Hist

and black jeans from afar. He was carrying a large cardboard box.
“Cody?” I was surprised.““It’s the middle of the night. What’s all this?”
“I’m delivering medicine to Gary,” Cody replied.
I peered at the contents. There were all kinds
of medicine.“Since when does he need this
arsenal?”
“Preventative measures. You know how
elders are.”
“Is that so? But why don’t you do it tomorrow?” I checked the time; it was almost
2 AM.
He adjusted his grip.“Let’s call it… impulsive
compassion.”

The elevator hummed upwards. Cody’s

“Just some digestive tablets.” I rubbed my sternum.“Stomach’s been off since dinner.”
His head snapped toward me.“You didn’t find any, did you? Serendipity!”
The doors opened on thirteen.
Before I could protest, he’d shouldered into my apartment, box thudding onto the entryway tiles.“Hold on, I’ve got exactly what you need!”
I watched, water bottle forgotten in hand, ast he excavated the pharmaceutical avalanche. Antipyretics. Antibiotics. Renal tonics. My brows climbed higher with each discovery. Does Gary moonlight as a walking medical encyclopedia? Is his health condition that complicated?
“There! Found it.” Cody searched until he was sweating before finally finding the digestive tablets I wanted. Also, he gave me a few other stomach medicines.

I took the medicine.“Thank you, how much is

“Please don’t insult me, Olivia.” His grin
turned wolfish in the foyer light.“Consider it… neighborly care.”

Seeing his insistence, I didn’t push it. I’d buy a few more boxes of pills for Gary tomorrow, considering it a loan.
Cody left with the large box of medicine. I took the medicine and went to sleep.
Penthouse balcony.
Evan’s whiskey glass clinked against the wrought iron table. “What happened to her?”
Cody stretched and yawned again.“Minor gastric distress. Indigestion. Not a big deal.”

It seemed he had really caused her trouble; even eating a meal with him could cause indigestion.
The lie back on the chaise longue did nothing
