Her Hidden Crown English Novel Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Bret Preston’s expression shifted immediately as he turned to Suzanne, his voice turning cold. “Mr. Lambert won’t stoop to your level. Pay for the damages, or I’ll call the cops.”

Suzanne scoffed, letting out a bitter laugh. “Oh? Go ahead. Call them.”

“You—!” Bret faltered, instinctively glancing toward Jenson inside the car.

It wasn’t that Bret feared taking responsibility—it was the fact that Jenson Lambert was a top-tier actor with an urgent schedule. Wasting time on a minor accident would be disastrous.

Inside the car, the window remained slightly open, and Jenson had already heard Suzanne’s voice. His expression darkened as he glared at her coldly.

“Suzanne, you just can’t let it go, can you?”

She let out a dry laugh, her patience fraying. Did he seriously think she had orchestrated this accident just to see him? Had she never noticed how self-absorbed Jenson was?

“Pulling stunts like this again?” Jenson snapped, irritation clear in his tone.

Suzanne grimaced but didn’t bother responding.

“Bret, get in the car.”

Bret hesitated for a moment before obeying. He was new and unaware of their history, but Jenson’s tone left no room for argument.

As Bret moved to the driver’s seat, Suzanne’s voice rang out coolly. “If you leave now, it’ll be a hit-and-run. Don’t blame me when your reputation goes up in flames.”

Bret froze, his gaze darkening.

Jenson’s expression grew sharper. “Suzanne, I don’t have time for this.”

Suzanne chuckled bitterly. “Do you think I do? But repairing my car isn’t free. You slammed on your brakes, so you’re responsible. A hundred thousand dollars, and we’ll call it even.”

Jenson let out a cold laugh, full of mockery. “Are you mad? Asking for a hundred thousand just like that?”

Before he could continue, Bret, who had been silently observing the situation, suddenly paled. He turned to Jenson with a hint of urgency in his voice.

“Sir… she’s driving a Ferrari. A limited-edition custom model.”

Jenson’s brows furrowed. Bret was well-known for his expertise in cars—if he said it was a limited-edition Ferrari, there was no doubt.

His gaze snapped back to Suzanne. Where did she get a car like this?

The Yates family would never have bought her something this expensive.

Suzanne, noticing his reaction, let out a soft, mocking chuckle. “I left you and found a rich man. Satisfied?”

Jenson’s jaw clenched.

No wonder she had suddenly changed, talking tough and acting distant. She must have gotten involved with another man.

But then he hesitated.

Suzanne had always been obsessed with him. Could she really move on so quickly?

His mind raced through possibilities. Maybe she rented the car. Maybe this was just another trick to get his attention.

Before he could say another word, Suzanne sighed impatiently and pulled out her phone. “Enough talking. Five seconds, or I’m calling the cops.”

The air grew heavy with tension.

Jenson’s face darkened as their eyes locked.

For the first time in a long while, he looked at her properly.

Suzanne had changed.

She was even more beautiful than before, but the warmth in her gaze was gone. The tenderness, the foolish devotion—all of it had vanished.

In its place was a cold, detached indifference.

His heart clenched unexpectedly.

Before he could react, Suzanne’s voice cut through the silence like a blade. “Jenson, stop assuming the world revolves around you. I couldn’t care less about a jerk like you.”

“You—!” Jenson’s jaw tightened, his anger barely contained.

But Suzanne didn’t care.

He wasn’t worth her time.

“A hundred thousand dollars,” she reminded him flatly.

Jenson exhaled sharply, eyes flashing with frustration.

“Bret, send her the money.”

Bret looked at Jenson in disbelief but didn’t argue. Begrudgingly, he turned to Suzanne. “Mr. Lambert has an urgent matter to attend to. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have gotten away this easily.”

Suppressing his irritation, he asked for her bank details and transferred the money.

Suzanne didn’t say a word. She didn’t spare Jenson a single glance.

But Jenson’s eyes never left her.

He was trying to read her like he always had. Yet this time, he couldn’t. Her calm, indifferent demeanor left him utterly baffled.

She had truly changed.

As soon as she received the transfer, Suzanne turned and walked away without hesitation.

Behind her, Jenson’s voice rang out, sharp and seething.

“Suzanne, it seems I’ve spoiled you too much. Once I’m done here, I’ll have a long talk with your father.”

Suzanne smirked. As if I care.

“Suit yourself.”

Without another word, she got into her car and drove off.

She pulled up in front of an office building and parked.

Taking a deep breath, she walked through the grand lobby and headed straight for the top floor.

Stopping in front of an office, she knocked lightly.

“Come in.”

A crisp, steady voice answered.

Suzanne pushed the door open and stepped inside.

Behind the desk sat a man in a tailored light blue suit, fingers tapping against a keyboard. His brows were furrowed in deep concentration, focused entirely on the screen before him.

This man was Shane Doyle.

At twenty-seven, he was three years older than Suzanne, yet his baby-faced features and flawless pale skin made him look younger.

Suzanne smirked. “It’s been three years, and you still look like a teenager.”

The familiar voice made Shane’s head snap up in surprise.

The moment he saw her, his entire face lit up with excitement.

“Tane Smith! You’re actually here!”

If anyone else heard that name, they would stop in their tracks.

Jane Smith was a legend in the medical world.

A mythical figure with an unmatched reputation.

A woman capable of bringing the dead back to life—she could reverse even the direst situations.

Death itself could not claim her patients.

Yet, two years ago, she vanished without a trace.

And now, she was standing right in front of him.

Shane, her agent and long-time confidant, had been handling her professional matters for years. Their bond went beyond mere business—they had survived life-and-death situations together.

In three long strides, he crossed the room, his wide grin nearly blinding. His enthusiasm was almost too much for Suzanne to handle.

She smiled. “Didn’t you say it was urgent? Why do you look so shocked to see me?”

“Damn it! Do you have any idea how many times I’ve called you? A hundred—maybe more! And now, you just waltz in like it’s nothing?”

Shane rubbed his eyes dramatically, as if making sure she wasn’t a hallucination.

“The last time I saw you was two years ago. I thought you were gone for good!”

His grip tightened on her shoulder, as though afraid she would disappear again.

Suzanne’s gaze softened, overwhelmed by the flood of emotions.

“Sorry,” she said quietly. “I was blinded by love. But I’m clear-headed now.”

Her lips curled into a smirk. “Call me, and I’ll show up.”
