Chapter 31
Suzanne’s passenger door opened, and Shane got into her car. She raised an eyebrow, looking at him with confusion. “Didn’t you drive here yourself?”
As soon as Shane got into Suzanne’s car, he began checking it out. His gaze brightened, and he retorted, “This is a limited-edition custom model. Where did you get this car?”
This wasn’t something money could just buy. One also had to have the power to acquire it!
A look of unease flashed in Suzanne’s expression. She quickly turned her head away and deliberately mocked, “Why does it matter to you?”
She couldn’t exactly tell him that Austin had gifted it to her, could she? If she did, Shane would undoubtedly start conjuring up all sorts of nonsense in his mind.
Shane, however, was focused solely on the car and didn’t notice Suzanne’s unease. He couldn’t resist touching the car’s interior and excitedly declared, “Sooner or later, I’ll also own one of these. It’s just too cool.”
Shane’s greatest hobby was collecting various luxury cars, and he was willing to spend extravagantly on them. So when he saw Suzanne’s car, he couldn’t take his eyes off it.
Suzanne knew about Shane’s hobby. She couldn’t help but smile and chuckle. “Alright, considering how hard you’ve worked for me, I’ll let you test it out.”
Shane moved closer, eagerly grabbing Suzanne’s arm and saying, “You love me the most, don’t you?”
When he got closer, Suzanne reached out to poke his forehead and push him away, disdainfully saying, “Love you? No physical contact between men and women. Keep your distance!”
Shane laughed heartily. “But didn’t you say you didn’t distinguish between men and women in your eyes?”
However, he was already starting to move from the passenger seat over to the driver’s side.
Provoked, Suzanne squinted at him. “In my eyes, it’s doctor-patient relations. Do you want to give that a try?”
When Shane thought about her impeccable acupuncture skills, he immediately shuddered. He shook his head rapidly. “No, no!”
He was terrified that if he hesitated, Suzanne might already have silver needles ready to insert into him.
Upon seeing his nervousness, Suzanne smiled slightly before getting out of the driver’s seat to make room for him.
Shane was happily humming as they hit the road. He enjoyed the thrill of the top-notch sports car’s speed and exclaimed, “This is amazing!”
Suzanne couldn’t help but smile at his antics. Just then, her phone suddenly rang.
She reached out to tap Shane on the shoulder and said, “Slow down and close the window. I need to take this call.”
Shane obediently followed her instructions.
When Suzanne saw the caller ID, she felt her heart skip a beat—it was Austin. She thought about what had happened last night and couldn’t help but feel her cheeks warm up. Upon noticing she hadn’t answered the call yet, Shane impatiently urged, “Aren’t you going to pick up?”
He was eager to experience the car’s thrilling speed again once she was done with the call. The sound of the engine was just too good!
Helpless, Suzanne answered the call. In a low voice, she greeted, “Hello?”
Still, her voice unconsciously softened after she answered.
“Why did you take so long to answer?” Austin’s voice sounded magnetic and exceptionally pleasant.
Suzanne instinctively glanced at Shane, who was focused on driving, and replied, “Oh, I was driving. What’s up?”
But in the next moment, her expression instantly stiffened as Austin replied, “I see. Get ready. We’re going back to the Hall residence tonight.”
Suzanne unwittingly exclaimed, “So soon?”
She wasn’t ready yet!
Her gaze flickered slightly, and she felt somewhat conflicted. She had never been to the Hall residence before, and considering how hastily their marriage had come about, combined with her past, it made her feel uneasy.
Austin’s lips curled into a faint smile. He was almost able to picture her expression at this moment.
He spoke gently, trying to reassure her, “Don’t worry. My mother is really looking forward to meeting you.”
Suzanne turned her gaze out the car window and tried to calm her nerves.
