Chapter 29
Marvin’s son’s developmental defect was related to his growth.
Suzanne pondered this for a moment before softly saying, “It is indeed quite a tricky case.”
Marvin’s hope seemed to fade as he slumped, losing all strength. “Ah, I knew it. This is my karmic retribution!”
Seeing his dejected state, Suzanne frowned slightly and reassured him, “It’s tricky, but not incurable. Why are you giving up so easily?”
Before she could finish, Marvin straightened up, his eyes shining with hope. He looked at Suzanne, eagerly asking, “D-Dr. Smith, are you serious?”
Suzanne nodded and continued, “The treatment process will be difficult, slow, and very painful for him, both physically and mentally. You should speak with him and see if he’s willing to endure the suffering. If he is, I can cure him.”
Her words were soft, but they carried weight and determination.
Suddenly, Marvin stood up and rushed toward Suzanne. Gripping her arm with excitement, he babbled incoherently, “As long as you can cure him, I’ll promise you anything you want! Even if you want my life!”
The years of seeking medical help for his son had drained Marvin, and nothing had worked. He only had one child, and if his son’s condition could be cured, the Guerra family would have an heir.
Suzanne frowned as she felt the painful grip on her arm.
Shane quickly stepped forward, pulling Marvin away while laughing to ease the tension. “Why would we want your life? Mr. Guerra, you’re being too dramatic.”
Suzanne sighed in relief as her wrist was finally freed. As for the compensation, Shane would handle that, so she didn’t need to worry about it.
She stood up, looked at Shane and Marvin, and softly said, “You two continue chatting. I’ll head to the washroom.”
Another successful request had been settled.
As Suzanne looked at her reflection in the mirror, a smile tugged at her lips. She was in a good mood.
However, as she reached the door of the washroom, she spotted a familiar figure and abruptly stopped in her tracks.
The man wore a black-and-white athletic outfit and stood tall at nearly six feet. Even with a mask, his handsomeness remained unmistakable. Years of acquaintance and countless photos she had once stared at allowed Suzanne to recognize him instantly—Jenson.
Her good mood evaporated in an instant.
There was a time when she would have been thrilled to see him every day, but now, ever since she decided to stop wanting to see him, it felt like she bumped into him almost every other day. Was this some sort of punishment?
At the same time, Jenson noticed Suzanne. She was dressed casually, but she stood out with a striking presence. After not seeing her for a while, she had become more poised and graceful, with a hint of allure and sexiness that made it hard to look away.
This woman… She was getting more beautiful.
But why was she here, in a place like this, out of the blue? Could it be that she heard about his whereabouts and followed him here?
Jenson sneered sarcastically, his eyes filled with disdain. Suzanne had said she was done with him, but her every action seemed like a subtle game of “push and pull.” Did she really think he couldn’t see through her tricks?
Just as he was about to leave, Suzanne moved even faster than him and walked toward the exit.
She had no intention of talking to him, let alone sparing him another glance.
Jenson frowned and quickly approached, blocking her path. In a displeased tone, he asked, “Why did you follow me here? Don’t you know my status doesn’t allow for this? You still don’t know your place!”
The more she clung to him like this, the more repulsed he felt.
Suzanne instinctively took two steps back, avoiding any contact with him. She looked up at Jenson, a cold sneer on her lips as she retorted, “You’re delusional!”
It did make sense, though. Wasn’t he delusional because she had indulged him?
In the past, she clung to him wherever he went. She always wanted to keep him in her grasp, afraid that he would slip away. But the truth was, some things couldn’t be held onto just by tightening your grip on them.
