Chapter 27
Suzanne’s eyes widened in shock, and her heart, which had calmed down, began to race uncontrollably. How could Austin do this?
She was completely stunned. She reached out to push him away, only to find that he wouldn’t budge an inch.
For Austin, what had started as a punishment turned into something more. The moment their lips met, he found himself unable to stop. With his eyes shut tightly, he fought for self-restraint before eventually pulling away. In a low voice, he warned, “This is your punishment. I don’t want to hear those two words again.”
Suzanne was still in a daze.
Austin rolled over, lying back down in his original position, and pulled the blanket over them again.
Suzanne’s cheeks were burning, and she unconsciously clenched her fists. She could barely control the wild pounding of her heart.
She had initially thought she wouldn’t be able to sleep at all, especially since it was her first time sharing a bed with Austin.
Yet, eventually, she managed to fall asleep, her thoughts tangled and complicated.
The next morning, sunlight filtered through the sheer curtains, and Suzanne slowly opened her eyes. The events of last night came rushing back in vivid detail. She sat up abruptly, only to realize that the space beside her was empty.
She let out a quiet sigh of relief. It wasn’t that she was trying to be overly sensitive, but facing everything all at once would have been awkward—especially since they had shared a bed. At least the kiss had happened in the dark.
The ringing of her phone broke her from her thoughts. She tossed the blanket aside and reached for her phone on the bedside table.
When she saw it was Shane calling, she quickly answered, “Hello?”
Shane, hearing the grogginess in her voice, knew she hadn’t gotten up yet. He chuckled and teased, “Still not up, huh? Get ready, we’ve got a new request coming in.”
Suzanne straightened immediately. “Okay. Send the address to me, I’ll head over right away.”
Her enthusiasm made Shane smile. She seemed more passionate about her work than before.
He happily replied, “Alright, I’ll send it over now!”
After hanging up, Suzanne went to the closet and picked out a formal tweed dress. Once she was ready, she headed downstairs and was about to leave when Rita hurriedly called out, “Mrs. Hall, you haven’t had breakfast yet!”
Suzanne checked her wristwatch. It would take at least an hour and a half to drive to the address Shane had sent. She quickly replied, “I have something urgent to attend to, so I won’t be eating.”
Who knew how long it would take if she hit traffic?
Before Rita could respond, Suzanne had already turned and quickly left the house.
Yewton Hotel, one of the top hotels in Dudore, was bustling with activity as noon approached.
When Suzanne pulled up to the entrance, a valet quickly came over to help park her car. She handed over the keys and looked ahead at the opulent hotel lobby. After smoothing her outfit, she stepped inside.
When Suzanne entered the private room she’d been directed to, she saw a slightly chubby middle-aged man dressed in a suit and tie. He wore a large gold ring, with a gemstone inlaid on the surface, and a thick gold chain around his neck, giving off a strong nouveau riche vibe.
As soon as the man saw Suzanne, his eyes brightened. What a beautiful woman!
Shane immediately stood from his seat. “You’re here,” he greeted.
