Chapter 22
“Doesn’t she just want to save her dignity? She’s such a vain woman, after all.”
The crowd murmured in disapproval, their disdain for Suzanne evident in their hushed whispers.
Suzanne, however, remained indifferent. She had heard similar criticisms too many times to let them affect her.
Seline, on the other hand, was brimming with excitement. All she had to do was spend some money, and she could thoroughly humiliate Suzanne!
Suzanne tapped her fingers lightly on the glass countertop, appearing utterly bored. Then, she turned to Seline and said, “Let’s take this emerald bracelet’s price as the starting bid.”
The crowd followed her gaze and saw the price tag—500 thousand dollars.
Even in a city as affluent as Dudore, that was a staggering starting price. Few could afford to play at such a level.
Seline glanced at the bracelet and smiled confidently. Just 500 thousand? It was nothing to her.
She lifted her chin and called out with an air of arrogance, “800 thousand dollars.”
Suzanne smiled lightly. “One million dollars.”
Seline didn’t hesitate. “1.5 million.”
“Two million.”
“Three million.”
“3.5 million.”
Seline frowned. Suzanne was still going at 3.5 million?
“Four million!” she snapped.
The bids kept rising until they reached eight million dollars. The amount was astronomical, even for the wealthy.
The crowd was stunned.
“Are they really sisters?”
“Is this really necessary?”
Seline’s grip on her handbag tightened involuntarily. She was nearing her limit, and Suzanne could tell.
Suzanne knew exactly how much allowance Seline received. Mandy might have spoiled Seline with generous sums, but her own financial power was limited. And knowing Henry, a man who valued money above all else, it was impossible for Mandy to have full control over the family’s wealth.
Suzanne smirked and asked lightly, “Can’t continue?”
It was a simple question, but to Seline, it was an unbearable provocation. That mocking glint in Suzanne’s eyes made her blood boil.
Clenching her teeth, she raised her voice sharply, “Ten million dollars!”
She locked eyes with Suzanne, expecting her to back down.
Suzanne hesitated for a brief moment. Seline’s confidence surged. No matter where Suzanne got her money, it wouldn’t be enough. Otherwise, why would she pause?
The crowd erupted in a frenzy.
“Ten million dollars?! You could buy top-tier gems at an auction for that price!”
“Who spends this much in a mall?”
Seline’s smile widened as she looked at Suzanne with condescension. “What’s wrong? Can’t counter it?”
Christine sneered, chiming in, “How much money does she even have? She’s just pretending to be rich—unlike you, Seline!”
Seline feigned modesty. “Don’t say that. Sue just used to be too emotional.”
Suzanne nearly laughed in frustration. Couldn’t control her emotions?
Yes, that was true—she had let her emotions rule her for years, making a fool of herself.
But not anymore.
She clenched her fist and pretended to force herself into one last bid. “10.5 million dollars.”
A collective gasp filled the room.
10.5 million dollars?!
Who said she had no money?
Spending 10.5 million on a bracelet originally priced at 500 thousand—was this what they called “having no money”?
Seline’s smile froze.
The composed demeanor she had worn earlier vanished in an instant.
