Chapter 20
With so many people watching, Seline couldn’t afford to lose her temper—no matter how much she wanted to.
Christine, however, had no such restraint. Her expression darkened as she stepped forward, pointing at Suzanne angrily.
“Suzanne, how shameless can you be? What gives you the right to compete with Seline?!”
Seline felt a wave of satisfaction, but she maintained her composed facade. Instead, she gently tugged on Christine’s sleeve, her expression full of feigned hurt.
“Christine, don’t be like this. She didn’t mean any harm.”
Her attempt to appear gracious only fueled Christine’s outrage.
“Didn’t mean harm? I’d say she did it on purpose. It’s disgusting!”
The coordinated performance between the two only deepened Suzanne’s amusement. It was almost entertaining to see how desperately Seline needed to come out on top.
Without hesitation, Suzanne handed the bracelet to the sales associate.
“I’ll take this one. Wrap it up for me.”
Seline’s glare turned ice-cold.
This bitch was deliberately going against her.
With the growing crowd of onlookers, she couldn’t afford to let Suzanne walk away with the bracelet. That would be utterly humiliating.
Just as the sales associate reached for the item, Seline turned to Suzanne, her tone dripping with false concern.
“Sue, why are you doing this? You don’t even have the money to buy it.”
She paused for effect, glancing at the curious onlookers before continuing in a hesitant tone, as if reluctant to speak.
“You’ve spent all your allowance on gifts for your boyfriends. There’s no way you have anything left now.”
Gasps rippled through the growing crowd.
Christine, sensing an opportunity, stepped forward with a smirk.
“I heard she was dating multiple guys at once back in college. She bought them luxury gifts and even dipped into her father’s money to keep them happy.”
The whispers grew louder.
“She looks so refined and innocent. I never thought she’d do something like that.”
“Never judge a book by its cover. The prettier the girl, the wilder she is.”
“Using her parents’ hard-earned money to spoil men? That’s disgusting!”
Seline felt a surge of satisfaction.
Christine was playing her role perfectly.
Suzanne, how does it feel to be crushed beneath my feet?
Seline clenched her fists, barely able to contain her excitement.
But Suzanne remained utterly unfazed.
Her heart turned cold at the absurdity of their accusations.
Allowance? She had never received a single cent from her father. So how could she have spent money frivolously?
Multiple boyfriends? The sheer audacity of the lie was almost laughable.
Fine. If they wanted to fabricate stories, she’d let them.
She’d just make sure they regretted it.
Christine, emboldened by the crowd’s reaction, couldn’t hide the smug look spreading across her face.
Suzanne had always carried herself with such dignity. Now, Christine was determined to drag her down.
Turning to the sales associate, she sneered, “Don’t waste your time on her. No matter how nice you are, she can’t afford anything here.”
Then, as if realizing something, she let out a mocking laugh.
“Who knows what she’s touched? You might want to disinfect that bracelet before anyone else gets sick.”
The sales associate hesitated, her expression shifting instantly.
She placed the bracelet on the counter and grabbed a polishing cloth, wiping it meticulously.
Then, with a pointed glare at Suzanne, she muttered, “Why waste my time if you can’t pay?”
With a sharp turn, she handed the bracelet to Seline, her face lighting up with a professional smile.
“Here you go, ma’am. Your bracelet.”
The drastic shift in attitude was striking.
Seline’s smugness returned as she reached for the bracelet.
But just as her fingers brushed the box—
Suzanne pulled out her wallet and retrieved her card, her voice cool and unwavering.
“I’m buying this. Take my card. Right now.”
