Chapter 18
Suzanne took a deep breath, suppressing the simmering anger within her. Keeping her voice calm, she said, “I’ll write down everything you need to pay attention to. You must follow these instructions exactly as written.”
Her gaze landed on a notebook sitting on the table. Without hesitation, she grabbed a pen from the holder and began writing quickly.
Ten minutes later, she handed the paper filled with detailed instructions to Leslie.
It was clear the list was meant specifically for her.
Leslie’s expression stiffened as she accepted the paper. For the first time, she truly realized how out of line her earlier words had been.
Most people would have stormed out in anger, refusing to treat Alan any further.
But Suzanne hadn’t let her temper get the better of her.
She had stayed.
She had ensured Alan’s treatment continued.
Leslie swallowed hard. After a brief moment of hesitation, she murmured, “I’m sorry for what I said earlier.”
Richard glanced at Alan, who remained in deep sleep. Seeing his son stable at last, he sighed in relief.
Stepping closer to Suzanne, his face softened into a faint smile.
“Dr. Smith, we owe you so much. We’ll be more careful moving forward. My wife was just panicking earlier—please don’t take her words to heart.”
Suzanne cast one last glance at Alan, confirming that his condition had stabilized.
With a small nod, she replied, “Alright. I’ll be leaving now.”
She packed up her things and headed for the door.
There was still something else on her mind.
The visit to the Hall residence was approaching fast, and she had yet to find the perfect gift.
Richard and Leslie hurried to follow her.
Just as Suzanne reached the entrance, she stopped abruptly and turned back.
Her gaze was steady, her voice calm yet firm.
“The treatment will take time before Alan fully recovers. For now, keep this matter private.”
Richard and Leslie nodded quickly.
“You can count on us. We won’t tell anyone,” they assured her.
Suzanne tilted her head slightly, watching them.
Would they really stay quiet?
She recalled Seline’s call earlier and smirked faintly.
“Your current household staff members have quite big mouths,” she added coolly. “I’d recommend replacing them.”
Without waiting for a response, she turned and left.
Richard and Leslie exchanged uneasy glances.
Their expressions darkened.
Turning to Joe, Richard ordered firmly, “Take care of it.”
Joe nodded and left without a word.
Meanwhile, Richard’s eyes narrowed as he looked out at the chaos beyond the door.
His gaze turned cold.
If someone thought they could stir trouble in his home, they were gravely mistaken.
The next day, the sun blazed high in the sky.
It was July, and the summer heat had settled in.
Suzanne had been walking around the mall for over an hour, searching for the perfect gift.
Yet nothing felt quite right.
Until—
A stunning emerald bracelet caught her eye.
Its quality and craftsmanship were exceptional, radiating an understated elegance.
Slowly, she approached the counter where it was displayed.
The sales associate immediately greeted her with a bright smile.
“Hello! Is there a specific piece you’re interested in? Would you like to try something on?”
Suzanne pointed toward the bracelet. “May I take a look at this one?”
The associate followed her gaze and lit up.
This bracelet wasn’t cheap.
If Suzanne decided to buy it, the commission would be high.
Her smile widened even further. “Of course! One moment, please.”
Suzanne took the bracelet in her hands, slowly examining it.
Her gaze sharpened.
Something about it had caught her attention.
