I was dressed in a black silk gown, elegant yet modest, with a subtle pearlescent shimmer. After enduring the long dark night, we could finally see the starlight.
“Shirley, are you nervous?”

Silence. After a moment, Shirley took my hand, transferring her warmth to my palm: “Christine, don’t be nervous.”
The curtains opened. Our names appeared on the massive LED screen. Shirley and I walked hand in hand toward the stage, greeted by applause that roared like mountains and surged like tidal waves.
