Chapter 93 – Dream Evidence
Research and development were just the first step. The real test would be how the product performed after use.
Caroline and Anna worked diligently, dividing the lotion and toner into sample sizes. Over a hundred sets were carefully prepared, ready for distribution to the female employees.
“Starting tonight, please use this lotion and toner,” Caroline instructed, addressing the small group she had gathered. “Document your experiences and any changes. For those experiencing redness or sensitivity, apply a thick layer of lotion to your face. After thirty minutes, wipe it off, and you should notice significant improvement. I appreciate your efforts and look forward to your feedback.”
If the women used the products without any adverse reactions—and the formulas proved effective for hydration, soothing redness, and combating sensitivity—the skincare line would be ready to move into production and prepare for launch.
Caroline felt confident. As a skilled formulator, she had complete faith in the products she had developed.
After distributing the samples, she returned to her desk, only to suddenly recall the package she had set aside earlier that morning.
Who sent it?
The sender’s name was a strange username—one she didn’t recognize. Muttering to herself, Caroline opened the package, curious but cautious. Inside were two pieces of paper.
Her eyes scanned the documents, but then, she froze. Her fingers tightened around the pages, her complexion paling as she realized what she was holding.
The documents were copies of two transfer records—each listing substantial amounts. One showed a transaction of approximately thirteen thousand dollars, and the other about twenty-seven thousand. Both were sent by Elizabeth.
What caught Caroline’s attention was the date—both transfers were made on the exact day Caroline had been kidnapped.
The recipients of the funds were unfamiliar to her, but with these transfer records in hand, tracing them would be straightforward.
This is it.
The proof Caroline had been desperately searching for was now right in front of her.
Too good to be true? Who would be so kind to help me like this?
She rifled through the package further and found a sticky note tucked inside. It read: “I found the evidence. I hope it helps. Apologies for the delay caused by Julia.”
It was from Nash.
But… hadn’t Julia seen and deleted the message Caroline sent to him? How did Nash know she was searching for evidence? Did Julia tell him?
Caroline’s thoughts swirled in confusion, but in the end, it didn’t matter. The evidence was right there, and now, she was eager to see how Elizabeth would explain herself.
Carefully, she tucked the papers into her bag, a determined resolve settling over her.
The sky outside had darkened as the sun set, painting the horizon with streaks of vibrant color.
After work, Caroline returned to the Ellison residence, her mind preoccupied with how to confront David with the evidence. She hadn’t expected to encounter Elizabeth tonight, but fate had other plans.
The moment she stepped into the living room, her eyes landed on Elizabeth, seated comfortably as though she owned the place.
Well, well, Caroline thought, she came to me instead. How convenient. Saves me the trouble.
This was a grudge Caroline was determined to settle once and for all.
“Back already, Caroline?” Elizabeth greeted with a forced warmth. “I’ve prepared some freshly cut fruit. It’s sweet—have some.”
Her demeanor was eerily confident, as if the Ellison residence were her own.
Caroline didn’t refuse. She sat down on the couch, taking a few bites of the fruit as she commented, “Hmm, it is sweet.”
“Of course! I selected these imported fruits myself,” Elizabeth said with a hint of pride. She then picked up a peeled grape and tried to feed it to David, who was seated across the room.
David, however, turned his head away with a cold, dismissive air.
“If there’s nothing else, you can leave now,” he said, his tone sharp.
Elizabeth’s expression faltered but quickly returned to its soft, calculated demeanor. “Mr. Ellison, I just wanted to spend some time with you. I hardly get to see you. Unlike my sister, who spends all day with you at work and sleeps by your side at night. She’s so lucky.”
Caroline couldn’t suppress the small smile that tugged at her lips. “If you want this kind of luck, it’s all yours. Do you want it?”
Elizabeth’s eyes narrowed for just a moment, but the smile she returned was anything but warm.
