Chapter 88 – Kiss Me Now
The more Caroline thought about her request, the more excited she became. She was almost giddy about the potential bonus. But before she could get lost in her excitement, David’s voice cut through the air, bringing her back to reality.
“Are you obsessed with money now?” His tone was dry, almost teasing.
Caroline shot back quickly, “Who would ever complain about having too much money?” She grinned. “The more, the better!”
She had two children to raise. Money wasn’t just a luxury—it was a necessity. She needed to earn more, save more, and plan for the future. Money is the only thing I can truly rely on.
David raised an eyebrow. “You’re my wife. According to marriage laws, half of the Ellison Group belongs to you.”
Caroline froze, processing his words. He’s right, isn’t he?
The Ellison Group was worth hundreds of billions. Half of that… The number was staggering. A hundred billion dollars. She tried not to let the idea overwhelm her.
But she quickly regained her composure. “That’s marital property. If we don’t get a divorce, I won’t get a share. And even if we stay together, you’re not just going to cash it out for me.” She shrugged. “I’d still prefer a bonus.”
Hundreds of billions? That’s just a dream. I’ve never even considered it. The money she earned with her own hands—that was real.
David gave her a long look. “You’re persistent. Fine. Will you stop asking about this bonus?”
Caroline was undeterred. “I promise I’ll keep innovating, keep contributing to Ellison Group’s new brand. I’ll give it my all. I’ll serve the company loyally—and if it falls, I’ll fall with it.” She flashed him a playful grin. “Such a bargain for a small bonus, don’t you think?”
David didn’t answer right away. Instead, he strode toward the car and opened the passenger door, lifting her inside effortlessly. His movements were smooth, calculated.
Caroline kept talking, unfazed. “You can’t just ignore me, David. I’m serious. I need that bonus.”
Suddenly, David’s voice dropped, and he called her by her full name. “Caroline Brooks.”
“Here!” she responded, blinking in surprise.
“Are you done talking?”
Caroline shook her head, grinning mischievously. “Not yet. You haven’t agreed.”
David leaned in, his lips dangerously close to hers. His gaze was intense. “Say another word, and I’ll kiss you.”
Caroline’s eyes widened, a sharp breath escaping her lips. Her heart skipped a beat. What is he doing? She pressed her lips together, refusing to speak another word.
I can’t believe he’s actually doing this! Shameless!
David’s gaze softened for a brief moment as he waited for her to break her silence. “Not asking for the bonus anymore?” he asked with a teasing smile. He placed a hand against the doorframe near her head, trapping her in her seat. “Not talking now?”
Caroline mimed zipping her lips shut, her eyes still filled with defiance. I still want the bonus. But I don’t want him to kiss me forcefully like this.
Her mind wandered for a second, remembering that he was the one who had stolen her first kiss. I can’t believe it’s him!
David leaned in closer, his breath warm on her skin. “I can give you a bonus. A generous one,” he murmured, his voice low and gravelly. “And I can agree to it right now.”
Caroline’s eyes widened with hope. He’s serious?
She lowered her voice, still skeptical. “What’s the catch? Just say it.”
David didn’t hesitate. “Kiss me. Right now.” His tone was commanding, like he was offering a deal no one could refuse. “And keep kissing me until I’m satisfied.”
Caroline froze, stunned. Is he for real? Her thoughts were spinning. What kind of person asks for a kiss in exchange for a bonus? She wasn’t sure whether to laugh or be frustrated.
Seeing the hesitation on her face, David straightened up and pulled back slightly. He slammed the car door with a loud bang, his expression hardening.
Caroline watched as he rounded the car and slid into the driver’s seat, her heart racing. What should I do? Kiss him and secure the bonus… or stand my ground?
She sat still, her thoughts torn between her pride and the lure of the money. She couldn’t deny the temptation. If I kiss him, I could secure the future I want for myself and my kids. But what am I willing to sacrifice for it?
