Chapter 6: The Buyer Didn’t Go to the Hotel
David admitted without hesitation, “Yes.”
“You stayed unconscious for an extra day just so Andrew could assault me, giving you the perfect excuse to wake up.”
“Yes.”
“You were never brain-dead. This was your plan all along.”
David abruptly opened his eyes. “Yes.”
At the Brooks Estate, preparations were underway for David and Caroline’s return. The family was thrilled by David’s recovery and his regained control over the company. It was a blessing they had long hoped for. However, Matthew and Samantha were on edge.
“Matthew, what do we do now?” Samantha fretted. “Caroline’s tied to a wealthy family, but we secretly sold her first night and sent her to another man’s bed. Do you think she’ll come after us? Will she seek revenge?”
“If we’d known Mr. David would recover and become so powerful, we should’ve let Elizabeth marry him instead!” Samantha sighed.
Elizabeth, their biological daughter, was a year younger than Caroline. After years of struggling with infertility, they had adopted Caroline. To their surprise, Samantha became pregnant the following year. This shifted Caroline’s status, which led the Ellison family to pay five billion dollars for Caroline to marry David, believing her to be a good luck charm.
Elizabeth, adjusting her makeup, sneered. “Mom, even if she’s married into the family, it’s not guaranteed she’ll keep that position. She’s dirty. Once Mr. David finds out, he’ll throw her away without a second thought.”
Confident in her own superiority, Elizabeth believed she was more than capable of winning David’s favor. She was innocent, obedient, and knew exactly how to cater to men’s desires. With David visiting today, she saw the perfect opportunity to make her move.
“But… weren’t we the ones who caused all this in the first place?” Samantha hesitated.
“Relax, Mom,” Elizabeth scoffed. “Caroline wouldn’t dare expose us unless she’s willing to give up being Mrs. Ellison. If she causes trouble, it won’t benefit her. We raised her for 20 years. Surely she wouldn’t turn on us now.”
Matthew hesitated, then spoke. “Actually, the buyer didn’t show up at the hotel on her wedding night.”
Samantha and Elizabeth froze in shock. “What?”
“The buyer called the next morning and said something urgent came up. He didn’t show, but still paid in full, just as promised.”
The identity of the buyer had always remained a mystery. He was incredibly generous but never revealed his face. To this day, no one knew who he was.
“But Caroline did spend the night with a man,” Samantha said, bewildered. “The driver confirmed it. He took her to the Ellison residence before dawn. She was covered in bruises!”
Matthew’s frustration grew. “Exactly! So, who was the man she spent the night with?”
The situation left them speechless, exchanging confused glances, unsure of the answers.
Suddenly, firm footsteps echoed from the doorway. David had arrived.
He entered the room with a commanding presence, one hand casually tucked into his pocket. His sharp gaze swept across the room, his features striking, radiating power and authority.
“Mr. David! You’re here!” Matthew greeted him with an ingratiating smile. “Welcome! Please, have a seat. It’s an honor to have someone like you as our son-in-law!”
David ignored Matthew, his intense gaze scanning the room before landing on Elizabeth. That night… could it have been her?
