Chapter 2: Wrong Room!
No, I was forced to do this! Caroline screamed internally. She had no way to resist. She didn’t even have the strength to get out of bed, let alone push the man off her. That night, she was tormented, tossed, and turned, all the way until the early hours of the morning. By then, the man was completely exhausted and fell into a deep sleep.
When the noise finally stopped, the men guarding outside entered. They lifted Caroline and carried her away, needing to get her back to the Ellison residence before dawn.
Not long after, the sky began to brighten. Suddenly, a loud shout came from the room next door. “Why is it empty in here? Why is the bed still made? Where’s Mr. David?”
The familiar voice woke the man, who furrowed his brow and slowly opened his eyes. “Here,” he said, opening the door, still half-naked.
Outside, his assistant, William, looked panicked and surprised. “Mr. David, how… How…”
David pressed his lips together. “Hmm?”
David was exceptionally handsome, with high cheekbones, sharp eyebrows, and piercing eyes. He had an air of authority in his movements, exuding intimidation.
“You’ve gone to the wrong room!” William said in shock. “Mr. David, your room is next door!”
David’s expression shifted as he examined the room numbers. It’s true! I got the wrong room! So the woman I was so rough with last night… Wasn’t the woman arranged by William! No wonder she had refused and told me “no.” David had thought she was playing hard to get, but now he realized she was innocent!
“Mr. David, then… The drug you took last night… Did it work?” William asked cautiously.
“It worked.”
“But…” William was confused. The woman he’d arranged for David was in the next room. How did the drug work? Was there a woman in this room too?
“Find out who stayed in this room last night,” David ordered. “Make sure to find her, quick!”
“Yes, sir.”
“Prepare the car. We’re going back to the house.”
David took large steps as he left the hotel through a secret passage. He couldn’t stay for long. He needed to return to his house to continue pretending to be dead. But he couldn’t keep up the act much longer. It was time to act. The Ellison family was one of the wealthiest and most prestigious families in the world, but behind the scenes, power struggles and backstabbing ran rampant. After years of infighting, someone had poisoned David in an attempt to kill him! So, David had played along. He secretly swapped the poison for another drug, weakening his heartbeat to create the illusion of brain death, fooling everyone. However, the drug required a woman’s presence to activate. It wasn’t a big deal for David, but he had made the mistake of walking into the wrong room at the last minute.
At the Ellison residence
David stood by his bed, quickly changing into a hospital gown and putting on a breathing mask with practiced ease. Just as he was about to lie down, the door suddenly opened without warning.
Caroline, exhausted and sore, entered the room. She had planned to take a bath, but the bathroom in the master bedroom was broken, so she went next door to use the other one. But when she looked up, she was met with a pair of deep, black eyes, dark enough to seem like they could swallow her whole.
She froze, her eyes wide in shock.
“David, you… you’re awake?”
