Wife’s Return English Novel Chapter 28

Chapter 28: She Doesn’t Want to See You

As Olivia left the room, she spotted Mr. Valtor waiting outside. Concern etched on his face, he peered into the room and softly asked, “Are you okay, Ms. Olivia?”

“I’m fine,” Olivia replied with a gentle nod. She murmured, “Mr. Valtor, please prepare a light dinner tonight. Liam hasn’t fully recovered yet, so he needs to recuperate.”

“Alright,” Mr. Valtor nodded and added, “You should also get some rest. You haven’t been sleeping well since you returned to the country. If your health worsens, I won’t be able to explain it to Joker.”

Olivia couldn’t help but smile. “Master is always busy and neglects his health when occupied. He doesn’t have time to worry about me.”

Mr. Valtor also smiled, then remarked, “That’s not true. He has always been concerned about you. He frequently calls to inquire about your well-being. He told me that if anyone mistreats you, just stand up for yourself. With him supporting you, no one can harm you.”

His words were clearly aimed at the Carter family, a subtle dig at their mistreatment of Olivia.

Mr. Valtor had been by Joker’s side for many years and was his confidant. Over time, he had been tasked with keeping an eye on Olivia, aware of her past and the complexities surrounding her life. To Mr. Valtor, Olivia was like a daughter, and Liam was like a grandson. Joker himself treated Olivia as family, and this bond extended to all of them.

Olivia felt a warmth in her heart at his words. She took a deep breath, feeling a sense of strength. “It’s okay, no one can hurt me. I’m not the same person I was five years ago.”

Mr. Valtor nodded approvingly. “That’s good! Joker established Mystical Alcazar, and you call the shots. Even the European forces respect you when they see you. Take good care of yourself.”

Olivia smiled in exasperation. “If you hadn’t brought Liam back to the country and caused trouble, this wouldn’t have happened.”

Mr. Valtor looked slightly embarrassed. “I’m old and useless. I was deceived by a child and caused trouble for you, Ms. Olivia.”

“Forget it. What’s done is done. There’s no point in looking into it,” Olivia reassured him. She didn’t really blame him. After chatting a little longer, Mr. Valtor went downstairs to prepare dinner, while Olivia headed to the study to work. There was a mountain of paperwork to sift through for the new subsidiary, but the words on the pages blurred before her eyes. Her thoughts were scattered, the frustrations weighing heavily on her mind.

She couldn’t help but feel dejected. Nathan would likely come again, possibly to demand another DNA test for Liam. How would she handle it this time? She had no answers, only uncertainty.

In frustration, Olivia walked over to the wine cabinet and poured herself a glass of red wine. The deep crimson liquid swirled in the glass, and she sipped it slowly, trying to calm her nerves. She drank two or three glasses before realizing it, and as the wine began to dull her senses, she heard the sound of a car outside.

Instinctively, she looked down through the full-length windows and saw a Maybach pulling into the courtyard. Its sleek contours and bold presence were unmistakable—it was Nathan’s car. For a moment, Olivia was stunned. She stared at the vehicle as it came to a stop. He came pretty fast.

Soon, the car door opened, and Nathan’s tall figure emerged. Dressed in a simple black shirt and trousers, his demeanor exuded confidence and composure. He was tall and dignified, with cold, somber features. His eyes, dark as night, swept over the building before him. Olivia instinctively ducked out of sight as his gaze passed over the study window on the second floor.

Nathan only caught a brief glimpse of a fleeting shadow and thought he had been mistaken. He looked away, about to walk toward the door, when Benjamin happened to return home. Seeing Nathan, he immediately stopped him.

“Why are you here again, Mr. Carter?” Benjamin asked with a neutral expression.

Nathan narrowed his eyes, meeting Benjamin’s gaze with a calm yet commanding demeanor. “I’ve come to see Olivia.”

Benjamin responded, his tone firm, “I understand you’ve come to see her, but I’m afraid Ms. Olivia isn’t interested in seeing you. Please leave.”

Nathan’s expression darkened, his annoyance evident. His cold gaze turned icy and menacing. “You have no right to stop me from seeing her. Step aside!” His voice carried an authority that brooked no argument, and his aloof demeanor suggested that he wouldn’t take no for an answer.
