- Chapter 9 Meeting The Parents
- Alexander watched with heavy amusement as Evelyn scurried from the bathroom. He would have been lying if he had claimed that he hadn’t stolen another glance at the woman before she jumped to put her dress back on.
- His new Luna was truly becoming an interesting addition to his life. However, there was still much more he needed to uncover about her before he could allow himself to trust her. And even then, he wasn’t sure if he wanted to bring Evelyn in on his plans.
- Actions, indeed, spoke louder than words…
- And Alexander wanted to put Evelyn’s claim of admiring and wanting to care for him to the test. He’d purposely placed them both in a precarious situation–one that was meant to reveal her true nature.
- Needless to say, he wasn’t sure if he was coming any closer to uncovering the truth about her.
- When one of the servants arrived to help Alexander out of the bath, he easily stood up and swiftly waved them off. With a courteous bow, the servant left Alexander to get ready on his own.
- Yes, he had to find out Evelyn’s true intentions before moving forward with anything. Because, even if by some chance, she didn’t turn out to be a spy sent by the King, he still had to make the decision as to whether or not she should be brought in on his vital secret.
- The house was Alexander’s safehouse, and everyone inside was his confidant. So, in turn, they all knew that he wasn’t injured.
- He grabbed the nearest towel and started to pat himself dry. He reached up to undo the mask, tossing it onto the counter. The side of his face, that Alexander always kept covered with the mask, was completely symmetrical with the other side.
- Both his jawline and cheek structure were completely intact. So, why the mask?
- Upon the idea of devising his plan to make everyone believe that he had been horrifically injured in the car accident, Alexander had opted for the idea of adding the use of a mask for a much more dramatic effect.
- And he believed that it worked. Many outsiders had a difficult time looking at him, which only added to his overall sense of intimidation. But beneath it all, was the same devastatingly handsome face that had always been there.
- When Alexander had finished getting ready, his Beta stepped in to pass on an update.
- “Evelyn has made it down to the living room.”
- “Is someone watching her?” he asked.
- “Yes, sir.”
- He gave a tight nod. “Good.”
- Originally, he had planned to brush off this marriage like he had done with others in the past. Hell, Evelyn wasn’t supposed to even make it down the aisle–much less agree to marry him under the given circumstances. Yet, it happened.
- Since this wasn’t ever meant to be a formal wedding, Alexander knew that he owed some kind of an explanation to his pack.
- He thought about waiting a bit longer since no one in the pack knew about the wedding for the time being. But his doubts about Evelyn, especially since she was so eager to marry him, were still lingering.
- Aside from having a possible connection with the king, he needed to ensure that Evelyn had no real ties with his own family as well
- Most of his family members were, unknowingly, under investigation for the connection to the car accident. Sending her

- Chapter 9 Meeting The Parents
- It was a loaded question that Alexander could have spent hours dissecting.
- “At least she didn’t seem like a well–trained seductress.”
- “Are you sure it’s not an act?”
- Remembering Evelyn’s earlier reaction, Alexander couldn’t help but smile. “Very sure.”
- Other than deciphering his Luna’s possible motives, the Alpha was positively sure of one other thing. His wife was absolutely breathtaking.
- If I was thankful for anything that had gone on in the last couple of hours, it was how quickly Nina and I had become friends. I felt beyond lucky to have someone who was willing to speak to me on normal terms and even go as far as to inform me of relevant, important matters.
- Nina had noticed me flying out of Alexander’s bathroom before and was kind enough to not ask any questions. Although, did manage to catch the pleased look on her face.
- “What exactly am I walking into?” I asked, nervously.
- I
- On the way to the living room, Nina went on to explain some of the complexities of Alexander’s family dynamics. Some of which I would never have guessed..
- “Only, Alexander’s parents are here to visit,” she started. “His father, Henry, and his Stepmother, Caroline–neither of whom are of much importance to this pack.”
- I figured that as long as I could get through this meeting, I would be fine…I hoped.
- I slightly turned my head to glance at Nina in question.
- “Hold on, if neither of Alexander’s parents has any part in his pack, then who controls the household finances?”
- “That would be Wendy, his Grandmother,” Nina answered. “Wendy doesn’t trust Caroline with anything personal relating to the Moonstone Pack due to some past mistakes. If you want to gain some of Alexander’s approval and make it within the pack, then find a way to gain Wendy’s favor.”
- I merely nodded my head, not having a single thought as to how I was supposed to ‘win the favor‘ of a woman I had never met. The thought of today getting any more nerve–wracking was enough to make me sick.
- “Is there anyone I should know about?”
- “Yes, Alexander also has a Stepbrother named Michael. He’s Caroline’s son and is currently away, studying at school so there’s no need for you to worry about him.”
- I was truly touched by Nina’s thoughtfulness to fill me in on the important notions of Alexander’s family. The man was so easy to brush me off before, there was the likely chance that I would have never known any of these things without her help. Nina had been the first real person to make me feel welcomed and at home here,
- She reminded me greatly of the many people I had left back home; all of those I trusted. It both warmed my heart and left. me feeling lonely.
- Stepping into the living room, I put on my most confident smile and went up to Alexander’s parents.
- “Hello, I’m Evelyn, Alexander’s new Luna. It’s nice to meet you.”
- “Your’re the one Alexander married?” Caroline asked with a tone of contemplation.
- “Yes.” I confirmed slowly “Is there a problem?”
- My brows drew together. Did Alexander really think I was going to be scared off like the other brides? Or had he intentionally tried to scare me away?
- “I’m sure you’re well aware of the others that had been matched before you,” Caroline said. “Alexander can be a bit difficult to handle at times.”
- I bit the inside of my cheek and tried to push the biting anger back. “I’m sure he and I will be just fine,” I said tightly.
- My chest filled with indignation as I inwardly cursed Alexander for putting me in such an uncomfortable situation.
- My God. It seemed like no matter what, the man wa
- deliberately trying to complicate my life.
- Lost in thought about Alexander, I glanced upstairs and saw a shadow at the corner of the hall. I leaned back on my heels to find the corner footrest of a wheelchair just barely visible.
- Was Alexander just sitting up there, overhearing this entire encounter?
