Chapter 680
Hearing the door close, Ellie didn’t know how long Alex had been kissing her. She was completely drained, lying limply on
the bed.
As the tension in her body eased, her phone buzzed with a notification. Ellie opened Alex’s chat, only to hear the sound of rain mixed with muffled, heavy breathing. Startled, she threw her phone away!
“Pervert! Psycho!” Ellie yanked the blanket over her head and cursed under her breath.
After calming himself down, Alex showered and walked out of the bathroom.
“Mr. Warren, everything’s ready,” Barry announced from outside the bedroom door, not daring to enter.
“I’ll bring her over soon. You go ahead and prep,” Alex replied.
Ten minutes later, Alex, fully dressed, stepped out the door.
A few hours later, dawn began to break.
“Mr. Warren, your wound is too deep. I’ll call Dr. Thompson right now,” Barry said as he pressed his bloodied hands against the wound in Alex’s lower abdomen, trying to stop the bleeding.
“No need. She’s not feeling well–don’t disturb her rest,” Alex said, drenched in blood. His voice strained as he grabbed Barry to stop him.
With one hand clutching the wound, he gasped through the pain, sitting up slowly. “Call the family doctor from the Warren Manor,” he ordered.
Reluctantly, Barry complied. Alex had fought off four elite, knife–wielding assassins barehanded to bait the people tracking Ellie. Now severely injured, he was still more concerned about not waking her up.
Barry couldn’t help but wonder, ‘Does Mr. Warren really lose his memory? Because risking his life like this isn’t his usual style unless it’s for family.
By the time the family doctor treated Alex’s wound, it was nearly 6 a.m. As the doctor left, Barry approached.
“Mr. Warren, let me help you back to your room,” Barry offered.
“Filthy as I am? No way. I’ll stay here. Clean this place up,” Alex said, lying back on the sofa and motioning around him.
Lying there, Alex replayed every detail of the night’s “fishing” operation in his mind.
Before heading out, he’d even hired a woman with a similar build and style to Ellie to use as bait. Though cautious, the targets fell into the trap. Once they realized they’d been duped, their reaction confirmed they were highly trained killers.

The next morning, Ellie woke up and noticed a message from Alex reminding her to stay safe. The timestamp? 6 a.m.
‘Why so early?‘ she wondered but didn’t dwell on it, getting ready for work.

“Let’s wrap it up here. Meeting adjourned!” Alex announced abruptly just after 9 a.m., ten minutes before his usual morning meeting ended.
The dozens of executives exchanged puzzled looks but didn’t dare to question him. In no time, only Barry and Chris were left by Alex’s side.
Alex sat in his chair, a thin layer of sweat forming on his forehead. Pressing one hand against his wound, he gripped a pen tightly in the other.
“Mr. Warren, your injuries are too severe. You should go to the hospital,” Chris urged.
“They can’t know I’m hurt!” Alex snapped, cutting him off mid–sentence.
Before Chris could respond, Layton walked in after knocking.
“If you’re injured, go to the hospital. There’s no point pretending,” Layton said, immediately noticing Alex’s awkward posture.
“You two, get back to work,” Alex dismissed Barry and Chris.
Once they left, Layton plopped onto the conference table. “When you asked me to find a woman similar to Ellie, I thought you wanted a stand–in because you couldn’t have her. Turns out you needed a decoy!”
