In the evening, Alex arrived on time to pick Ellie up from work.

In the parking lot at the hospital entrance, Alex opened the trunk and said, “These shopping bags are for you, and these are for the kids…”

Alex stopped cutting the steak and looked up at Ellie.
“It’s after work. We’re talking about personal matters,” Alex said, emphasizing the words “personal matters“.
After that, he elegantly put a piece of steak into his mouth.
