Chapter 667
Ellie could hear her heart pounding in her chest.
Alex was well–behaved tonight. He didn’t try to touch her and didn’t even ask her about dating again.
He just stood in front of her, stared at her seriously and told her that he missed her, but she was touched more than ever.
“Mr. Warren, we’re almost there.” Ellie wanted to change the subject and tried to walk past Alex, but he grabbed her wrist and pulled her closer.
He looked into her eyes and said, “Ellie, I’m waiting for your answer.”
Held in Alex’s arms, Ellie looked up at him. She was stunned by the emotions surging in his eyes.
Alex looked down at Ellie, and then his gaze slowly moved down to her lips. Then his eyes darkened.
He tentatively lowered his head, and just as their lips were about to touch, Alex restrained himself from kissing her.
He rested his forehead against Ellie’s and said, “I have some gifts for you. They’re in the car. I’ll give them to you tomorrow.
“Let’s go.” Alex let go of Ellie and turned around first.
Ellie stood still, in a daze.
She patted her chest repeatedly and took deep to calm herself down.
She could handle Alex’s recklessness, playfulness, and even his dominance, but she was afraid of him like this.
The subtle probing, the veiled ambiguity, and the barely concealed desire.
They all made her involuntarily nervous and helpless.
After composing herself, Ellie hurried to catch up.
Seeing Ellie catching up, Alex looked down and smiled at her without saying anything.
They continued walking in silence until they got into the car.
“Wake me up when we arrive.” Alex adjusted his seat upon getting into the car and lay down.
Ellie glanced at Alex, who was lying in the passenger seat, and remained silent.
Half an hour later, the car parked in the parking lot downstairs in Building 7 of Zerikith.
“Mr. Warren,” Ellie pulled up the handbrake and turned to call Alex, only to find him sleeping soundly.
Just then, Ellie’s phone rang.
Seeing Barry’s number, Ellie hesitated and then answered the call.
Barry said, “Dr. Thompson, is Mr. Warren with you? I can’t get through to his phone.”
Hearing Barry’s anxious voice, Ellie glanced at Alex and said, “His phone is dead. He has just arrived at Zerikith.”
Barry said, “That’s good. Mr. Warren hasn’t slept for three days. I won’t disturb him, then.”
The call ended, and Ellie looked at Alex, who was sleeping soundly in the passenger seat.
She thought, ‘So he had been working with his team on that project for three days without sleep. No wonder he let everyone go home to rest as soon as they got off the plane.’
“You still think you’re young? How could you attend the appointment when you were so exhausted?” Ellie muttered. She unzipped a backrest in the back seat, took out the thin blanket inside, and covered Alex with it..
Ellie turned off the car, sat quietly, and looked at the dark night outside the window, feeling at a loss.
The next morning, when Alex woke up in the car, Ellie was already gone.
Seeing Ellie’s thin blanket, Alex pondered. He rolled up the blanket and got out of the car with it.
“Mr. Warren.” Barry came to pick him up and go to the company. Then he saw Alex come out of Ellie’s car with a small floral blanket.
Alex said, “Give me a few minutes. I’ll go upstairs and take a shower.”
More than 20 minutes later, Alex finished showering, changed into a suit, and then went straight to the company.
It was past ten o’clock when Ellie received Alex’s call.
She thought Alex had just woken up. “Mr. Warren, just leave the car keys with the guard. I’ll get them after work.”
Alex said, “I brought your car keys to the office this morning. I’ll drive your car to pick you up tonight. I have something for you.”
Ellie couldn’t help frowning after hanging up the phone. She thought, ‘He was so exhausted and hadn’t gotten enough rest yet, but he went to the office early in the morning again? He’s gonna kill himself.
