“Jesse, I’d like to propose a toast to you.” Ellie hesitated as she picked up her juice. Though unfamiliar with the nuances of business dinners, she knew that company leaders often brought female companions to liven up the atmosphere.
She knew that Mark brought her here to give her some experience, nothing more. But since the other party had already made the offer, she should respond graciously.
“That won’t do.” Jesse stood up, took two glasses of white liquor, and walked up to Ellie. “There’s no gender distinction in the workplace. We’re having white liquor, so Ms. Thompson shouldn’t be drinking juice.”
Ellie lowered her head, frowning at the glass of white liquor placed in front of her.
“Mr. Scott, I’ll drink this glass for her,” Mark stood up and came over to take the glass, but Mr. Scott stopped him.
He said, “Mr. Grant, you and Mr. Warren have taken several layers of skin off us today, squeezing our profit margin to almost nothing. Don’t tell me we can’t even have a drink with Ms. Thompson.”
Mr. Scott was clearly displeased. Ellie stole herself and picked up the glass.
“How can Ms. Thompson accompany Mr. Scott? I’ll make arrangements for the evening. I promise Mr. Scott will have a good time.” Alex stood up and clinked glasses with Mr. Scott. “This glass is for you, Mr. Scott. Cheers to our cooperation.”
Upon hearing that Alex had made arrangements for the evening, Mr. Scott immediately beamed and drank the whole glass with him. Alex personally escorted Mr. Scott back to his seat, refilled his glass, and didn’t forget to compliment him.
Returning to his seat, Alex gave Ellie a discreet look. In gratitude, Ellie poured him a glass of warm water.
During this time, Ellie excused herself to go to the restroom. When she came out, she saw Alex smoking in the hallway.
“Thank you for blocking that drink for me just now, Mr. Warren,” Ellie said generously.
“This kind of occasion is not suitable for you. Don’t come here again in the future.” Alex extinguished the cigarette he had just lit.
“There’s no gender in the workplace. I’m just not good at drinking, I can learn other things.” Ellie might not enjoy these occasions, but she wouldn’t shy away if necessary.
She and Alex were both out here, leaving Mark alone to deal with them. She couldn’t help but worry. Ellie was in a hurry to go back, and as she passed by Alex, his slender fingers hooked onto the metal chain on her waist.
Ellie shot Alex a warning glance, pried his fingers off, and pushed open the door to the private room.
The gathering finally ended after more than an hour, and Ellie was the last to leave the private room.
“I drank. Take me back to the company.” At the corner of the corridor, Alex had appeared behind Ellie at some point.
“Mr. Warren, your driver should be waiting for you at the entrance.” Ellie had seen Alex’s car when she arrived, with the driver and Barry waiting inside.
“My car already went back to the company.” Alex said matter–of–factly.
A few minutes ago, Barry, who was at the entrance, received a message from Alex, ordering him to get out of the car in three minutes. Barry didn’t dare to delay a second and immediately asked the driver to drive away.
“Let’s talk at the entrance.” Ellie frowned, not believing a word he said.
As a group of people passed through the corridor, the door of a private room behind them opened.
“Well then, it’s settled. I’ll wait for your news in a couple of days” A clear and familiar voice sounded. Ellie, Alex, and Mark nurned around to see Lacey coming out of the private room with a handsome young man.
The man was fashionably dressed, wearing a baseball cap and a mask. Lacey was holding a doll in her arms. The young man beside her lowered his head and whispered something to Lacey. Lacey lowered her head shyly.
